BMW and M Power Owners

Ouch. This one has done 56000 miles and I'll be making sure it's warrantied if I end up getting it. It won't be a daily driver either as I work from home.
Check the price of the warranty before you buy, and don't assume it will cover it. BMW wanted service history, service invoices and purchase invoices - and everything to be perfect - before they'd do the work!

The warranty is crazy money and reflects the enormous risk of these cars now they are old. The only warranty worth having is the proper BMW one. At least it pays out when its needed - but you'll pay a premium that reflects the risk...

Honestly I've no idea who buys these now. It's probably cheaper and easier to just suck up the depreciation on a warranted F10.

But an E60 + $30k would still be cheaper than an F10 M5...

You've got to look at the total cost over your ownership.

An F10 costs more than an E60 because..... it's worth more than an E60 and that will be reflected in the resale value of the car.

Fox's point I think is that you can spend £5k keeping an E60 M5 on the road each year (or £30k pa if you're unlucky like PMK) or you can 'pay' £5k in depreciation per year on an F10 M5. The yearly cost is the same for both cars.

Guys a lad at work has just bought a BMW 545i around 2004 I think which he says is a "coachworks edition" It has some nasty yellow/beige pin stripes down both sides.

I cant find any info on it. Anyone heard of a coachworks before?

Do all dual clutch M cars come with that horrible little gear knob?

It's not actually that small. It fits nicely in the palm of your hand.

Whilst I know the shifter style is different , other than putting it in park or reverse, I never use the shifter on my f31 330d - I just use the paddles

If I want to buy a used BMW off autotrader etc what the does the car have to come with in order to qualify for the full comp BMW Mondial Warranty?
I've got the following criteria so far:

- less than 60K miles
- FBMWSH

Do you need a copy of the service history invoices also?

I'm just wary of buying a used BMW thats from around 2008-2011and then not being allowed to buy the BMW Warranty on a monthly plan so wanted to know how to de-risk this without going down the AUC route?

Thanks.

You can buy it online but they may ask for proof it's been serviced properly in the event of a claim. The terms should be on the site.

THanks, I've had a quick read and it seems like the claimant will need service history VAT receipts. That's going to be a ballache to acquire when buying a used car. I suppose I would have to phone up all the numbers in the service stamp book and get them to send over a copy of the receipt before I even purchase the car

I'm guessing BMW want this because they don't trust the stamps...

If it's all BMW history I would expect them to be able to check themselves that the stamps were legit /services registered on the system - give them a call and ask about physical receipts but I can't see why it would be a requirement unless it was done at a specialist

My 330d was 6 years old when I bought it from a used car dealer and had 72k on, bought the BMW warranty online shortly afterwards and made about 6 claims in the first year! No questions asked on any of them, it did have full bmw history which can easily be checked on, I believe you can by the fully comp warranty upto 100k but costs more than if it had sub 60k

They do seem strict at least with recent warranty work, our dealer wouldn't start any warranty work on the car without a photo of the service book despite the dealer doing the work being the ones that carried out every service of the car and the faults were found during a service the previous week.

That would require a much more significant down payment or credit amount would it not? A lot of people see the headline figures, the purchase cost, and go all in not thinking about future spending on complete non issues such as servicing and tyres, then they get one bill and say "BMW always been looked after only selling because of new house"

Deprecation is almost guaranteed.
Running costs are a risk, and £5k seems a ridiculous notion to spend annually.

Been to a few dealerships today(Volvo, Jag, Mercedes, Ford (W/ Mustang and RS) and BMW) and by far my favourite car, was a BMW 520D Estate M sport. So comfortable and would definitely be a car I could own for the best part of 10 years..

Just wanted you all to know :p Just remembered that the new 5 Series is out soon too; maybe some epic discounts to be had?
