BMW and M Power Owners

Took both cars with the coolant warning on into the BMW service. Service guy took them away checked for visible signs of leaks in the "usual places" (15 mins) and then topped them up with more coolant - said if either does it again bring it in and they'll take a more thorough look, but for now no problem they were just a bit below minimum.

Yeah if it's only just below minimum the best thing to do is fill it up to max then check it every week.

He said the cold weather could contribute as the engine runs hotter at startup to compensate (?) so needs to use more coolant...

 This sounds like one of the gems dealerships come out with.

A) Coolant isn't "used" - the same stuff is cycled around the system
B) The engine doesn't run hotter at start up in cold weather at all? That doesn't even make sense. It revs higher initially, but that is to try and get heat *into* the engine, because it is so cold.

Oh well, at least they didn't charge me for their expert advice :D I will check the level more regularly in future. I do find it odd that it happened to both cars in the same week at the only time the temps have been below zero in the last two years.

It's not. A guy I work constantly goes on about how his girlfriend has got (it's on PCP) a brand new "1 series m sport". In reality, it's a 118d.

He think it's so great, I just don't understand. And the guy's in his late thirties...
Was meaning more the mileage.

Um, why? What's wrong with that?

4.5k miles in 3 years on a diesel? Didn't think that would have done it any good, but I can't say I'm familiar with the ins and outs of BMW diesel engines

Nothing an "Italian tune up" shouldn't cope with, rag it, activate the dpf regeneration cycle, job done.

My partners 12 plate focus diesel does low annual miles, it seems fine and doesn't eject any crap from the exhaust at all, ragging it or not, I've told her to periodically drive at 65 in third for a few miles and this seems to keep it clear.

Ragging it makes all the difference. We had some friends come up around Christmas for a visit. All the way from London way (so 500+ miles one way). Not long after he got here, his DPF failed to regenerate or something, threw a warning codes and panicked them as they had to drive back the next day.

Cue the AA dude showing up, doing a scan, thrashing it for 15 mins, and job done.

I told the guy not to drive so much like a granny on the way home. Or if he does, drop a gear for a few mins on the motorway.

meh couldn't wait, just done a f10 m5 on a 63 :)

I have always been a bit of a audi fan boy at heart, but the later rs6's are 20k dearer than these things which means the m5's are terrific value

Thats a great spec there with sunroof and adaptive suspension. 2 rarities. Though no HK Audio. I almost found the perfect model that I'm after but just fell short.

I'm after a manual 3 door in grey with a handful of options.

Feel the car falls into no-mans land, people with money don't want that sort of liability and Mr skint who can finance a max of 25k can't actually afford to pay the £500 a year road tax, this just leaves the enthusiasts which are few and far between.

Boat load of car for the cash, probably unbeatable as a package actually, but i bet the bills would make your eyes water if something went wrong.
