BMW and M Power Owners

Whilst that's an awful lot of car for the money, the running costs are insane and the engines and gearboxs blow up, you would need a warranty which you can't get.

I could handle the occasional £1000 bill however when you're talking potential £10k/£20k or even £5k bills that's above my budget.

I guess the words M6 and budget don't go together :D

Are they really that unreliable? Or it it just a potential risk with the engine/box? Any preventative measures available? Low mileage examples with full BMW service history any less prone?

edit, just seen jamoor's post regarding preventative measures, thanks for the info!

Had a test drive in the 135i yesterday at Stratstone Derby (wow that place is huge)

anyway, really liking the car

Now on the lookout for a black 5dr auto model with a few choice options

is the adaptive suspension worth getting? Hardly any cars have it so wondering if there's a reason for it.

They are a ticking time bomb, awesome engine/car though :)

Double your budget and get a new one

£20k is my budget, cannot double it unfortunately :p

Unless I could get a warranty I would have to look at it as going one of two ways -

1) Buy M6, run it for a few years, nothing major breaks, enjoy epic car albeit with high running costs.

2) Buy M6, run into engine/gearbox trouble, massive bill, break car and take substantial loss / sell car and take a substantial loss. Move on.

Maybe I'll wait until the Mercedes E400 drop a little, or a 640i......

Buy an e92 m3 :)

Not a bad idea actually, probably the more sensible option (who'd have thought an M3 would be sensible :p)

Will have to arrange some test drives -

E92 M3
640i
E400
Z4 35is

Non convertible option - Cayman 3.4S?

get a E60 M5 lots of change left and that noise

Aren't these massively expensive to run/maintain as well?!

Off the back of the M140i deal yesterday, I'm going to see another dealer this afternoon to see if they can do me a deal in my spec.

Well my car ended up costing £280 (Inc VAT) for a minor service with oil change and £459 for a replacement and fitting of a rear suspension airbag.

Didn't purchase extended BMW warranty as car went over 60k miles and price got silly.

So, the Auto windscreens guy turned up (late) then failed to change my screen because he could not get the wiper off. In trying he broke the wiper jets splitter on the arm, and then said I would have to take it to a garage and pay them to remove the wiper so they can then change the screen...

Not impressed.

He didn't even have a wiper puller...
