BMW and M Power Owners

ha yeah, Just took a colleague out who rides bikes.

'It's like a bike how it overtakes'. It very scary how quick a one car overtake becomes several and you look down to silly speeds. Definitely a S4000 :D

It really is a split personality car and cant wait for drier roads to try it on MDM. The DCT box does everything you would do as a driver so you rarely need manual, obviously its more fun in manual lighting up all the shift lights :D

Its the good and bad thing about DCT, makes going fast very easy without realising. Though you end up going too fast! Think the 0-100 times between DCT and manual E9x M3 is nearly 2s apart, really makes the car much quicker. :D

Manual mode works so well though, don't get me wrong I love a manual but I am at that age now where is there is a decent AUTO option I'd take it and DCT and PDK for me now is better than a manual.

Really wanted an auto on the Mustang, but that auto just felt too disconnected and slow. If I get the MY18 one I will be going 10-speed auto which looks very good.

Not found any times for the manual. DCT is 9.4 0-100 and 4.6 0-60, but post 2011 have been measured at 3.9 0-60.

Ah the manual time I knew of was 10.5s 0-100, so not quite 2s but over 1s difference is quite a few car lengths on 0-100. :)

Is the DCT the same in the M3 as the one in the 335i? I've driven that one a bit and found it to have a very high novelty factor but wore thin after a while. Awesome fast seamless upshifts, too unreponsive in regular D but cruises 2 gears too low in S. Frequently refuses to give you that last downshift you want in hard braking on track. Think I would rather have a manual.

The M-DCT had a 7 speed with 5 different D (auto) settings and 6 different manual settings ( speed of change / smoothness / gear change algorithms) ? There is no sport mode.

It auto blips on downshifts in S5 (S6 you only get with DSC off) which is also very addictive

Wouldn't you just use it in manual mode when on a track?

Yes, but because it's not a manual, it's a computer that sometimes won't let you have the gear you want, it's not that simple.

As Fox said though, the M-DCT is different to the DCT to which Clarkey is referring in the 335i

The M-DCT is much better and a lot more aggressive and just seems to work as a manual in manual and when in auto it seems pretty good.

The only time it won't give you a gear is if it would stall the engine or over-rev it which to be frank is a good thing, prevents you doing a money shift.

Yeah, that's what I meant :)

M-DCT = good
DCT (as is what was on the 335i) = no better than a good modern auto

I thought the DCT in my Z4 was fantastic. I can't remember a single occasion where it didn't let me select the exact gear that I wanted. Sounded nice on downshifts/overrun, too.

Agreed, I have the DCT in my Z4 and it's definitely a lot better than a good modern auto - the M-DCT and DCT are hardly night and day (although there are differences).

In manual mode it gives you a fair amount of freedom, would be interesting to know the rev limit at which it stops you shifting down.

So mine went in for it's 3rd oil service today, which means diff. oil, air filter, spark plugs etc. Not cheap! Also, my brakes are at 12%, so they'll need replacing soon too. And then I had to fill up, another £75. I also got them to do a full diagnostic check/dump. There's been a few battery warnings prior to my ownership so I need to keep an eye on that. Also, I note my drivers side heated door mirror isn't working, another little one for the list!

On the plus side the indy I'm using seems clued up and very friendly. Bonus! :)

Absolutely not, keeping this F10 for some time (especially as I bought the service pack just before its first service!), however I've definitely found my next car, just have to wait until the LCI :p

Wish they would hurry up and fix pro-nav real time traffic, its been down since Tuesday for me. Check with bmw too make sure it wasn't just me but they apologised and said it was major issue they were trying to fix asap.

Asap being 3 days now, pretty rubbish for a company the size of BMW :(
