BMW and M Power Owners

Grudas how big of a difference has going from 19" to 18" in terms of ride quality and comfort on your Z4? I'm currently on 19" CSL's from CM wheels which they do look gorgeous on the car, My wallet and spine could do with less of a pounding :(

Hoping to see a big difference with going from Front 225/35/19 Rear 265/30/19 to whatever size MV2's are.

I was thinking of going the opposite way on my Z and getting some decent 19" CSLs, however everything I have read re: ride quality has put me off a bit. Though I bought mine around when you did and have only done 4000 miles I think so it wouldn't matter that much. Then I started looking at 18" replicas thinking I could just swap tyres over but they don't look anywhere near as good.

A quick look on AT has 05 and 06 reg 730d's roughly between £4K and £11k, at best I'd guess yours in good running order is worth £6k ish so perhaps just spend the money on a replacement car rather than just a recon engine that's costing nigh the cars value...

No guarantee of course that the replacement car won't go pop itself where I imagine the recon will have some kind of warranty....

I've never had good experience with engine swaps in cars though, they either never feel the same or just go bang after a few months as well.....
Mines a high miler so if it was running I'd say 5k tops, so I'd be spending more than it's worth to get it back on the road... but then it would be a low miler which would bump up the resale price. However, anyone considering an old 7 isn't going to really spend too much on it so any profit will be minimal (that's my thoughts anyway).

thanks for the advice, I think I will just give up on it and get a new car. Hoping for a 6GC but god knows why they're holding their price so much!

If you were going to sell it anyway, and it's not going to be worth any/much more than the cost of the replacement engine then just sell it now. Probably would put it on ebay or something in the hope you get a chunk of cash back and use the money you would've spent on repairs towards the next car.

Hmm yeh I guess through it on Gumtree and see if anyone want a shell, be more than the scrap man gives for it anyway... I hope :)

Thanks guys :)

I've covered nearly 20k miles in mine since late 2015 as its my daily, I've put up with it despite the poor UK road conditions, they're lovely on smooth roads but bumpy roads the car feels like its literally skipping and bouncing, imagine that feeling them going round a bend, its not pleasant.

The previous owner got the CSL's from CM Wheels, they're really nice alloys and the quality looks top notch and they seem to get good reviews on the z4 forum.

What wheels have you got out of interest?

Wow a fair few more than myself then. I know the feeling its still not all roses with 18s. However things got a lot better after I refreshed the suspension and got AS2's all round. I'm on 108s. I like the style but have gone off the dual tone look that the previous owner had done.

NVP, trouble with yours is even though it'll have a zero mile recon engine, it'll still be a high miler in terms of its resale value, yes the engine is zero miles but everything else isn't and I doubt many punters would see it otherwise.

Alas, your best option is to bail out on it I think, good money after bad & all that jazz alas.

Reads like both alignment and over inflation to me.

Wouldn't over inflation cause more wear on the centre of the tyre? Forgive another stupid question, but would it be OK to get the alignment done before changing the tyres, or is it something that should be done once I have the new ones on? I assume it's done on the basis of the wheels (rather than tyres) otherwise it would get thrown off every time you took off and put a wheel back on.

exactly what put me off 19s! it's still harsh on 18's don't get me wrong its not a 7 series but what it does feel is under control and not skipping/bouncing all over the place.

19's on an E85/E86 Z4 are ridiculous - there is a reason BMW never offered a 19 inch wheel size on the Z4, even the Z4M didn't have 19 inch wheels. It's bad enough with 18 inch wheels even on non RFT's.

19's might work okay on SE suspension, can't comment on that tho.

I usually sacrifice some comfort and go for looks but this time 18's is the way to go imo! they look plenty big enough and wider/fatter stance is what suits z4's I think.

Sorry. B

Brain fart from me. Meant under inflated.

Yes, get the alignment done ASAP.

No compression, they think the timing chain. Said it's not economically repairable .
Just had a quick look about and it appears there are companies on eBay which will supply and fit a reconditioned engine, and supply 6 month/12,000 warranty for between £1500-2000 supplied and fitted?

Oh really? Tbh I didn't bother looking, sounds reasonable and should be able to make a bit back from selling it on... thanks Gaygle :)

Anybody know when the new 6 series is to be unveiled/released? Was in the dealer this morning asking about a new 6 coupe and was told there were no discounts to be had as the new one is so close. Not sure if he was taking me seriously though, so that could be something to do with it.

The internet suggests a 2017 announcement; how long after the 5 is the 6 normally announced?

He's having a laugh. The 6 series is probably the most heavily discounted car in their range!

Coast2coast suggests you can get a whopping £14k off list on a base spec m-sport 640d.

Whenever I've been in my local dealer they've always had brand new 6ers with huge discounts on the windscreen, £12-19k I've seen in there.

Indeed. I'd already done a bit of reading through C2C, Broadspeed and the like to see that they were offering a decent chunk off list.

I actually went in to see an ex-demo one will 5k on the clock, but it had sold the weekend before and they hadn't bothered updating the website. It was only then we really got talking about a new purchase.

It did make me wonder though. If the new one is due back end of this year or early next then a brand spanking new 6 might be a bad idea (or a really good idea if they have a last hurrah money off event).
