BMW and M Power Owners

Hmmmm, not really sure what the point in a 2.5 Z4 is. It offers nothing over the 3.0 and has identical running costs.

If you want lower mileage facelift then 2.5 is the option really. Running costs wise i agree there's nothing between them :) 3.0s demand a premium and will probably continue doing so. You still get decent power and i6 in 2.5 so imo it's a decent car, much better than 2.0 4pot

It's not no use, but most of it is included with Professional Navigation. It doesn't do an awful lot without that unless you pay various sums of money for extra features, which I guess is why you are finding its use limited.

With Remote Services you can:

See where your car is from your phone
Remote lock/unlock/flash lights/set the ventilation to come on
Send destinations to Navigation

Other Connected Drive features include

Realtime traffic information for all major routes, colour coded by traffic flow
Online functionality with news, weather, various apps, fuel prices, etc
Concierge service (useless)

etc.

I'm not sure how much of that only works with Pro Nav.

Concierge (£80 pa), Realtime traffic info (£40 pa) and remote services (£60 one off charge) I have to pay for, the rest is included. I think I'll pay the £60 one off charge for remote services.

Hopefully I can access the combined mighty knowledge of BMW owners once again...

So on Friday I went to unlock my car (1 series M Sport E87 2005), and the hazard warning lights refused to stop flashing. Even when the engine was off and the car was locked.
I phoned my mechanic and he recommended disconnecting the battery to see if that would reset the electronics (and if not to preserve the battery).

Tried the car later on in the day, connected up the battery, and it appeared to be working again.
Around 10.30PM at night the alarm on the car went off; I unlocked and locked the car, the alarm stopped.
However, the internal light in the car would not switch off. Disconnected the battery again.

I have connected the battery again and its currently behaving but I am worried at any point the alarm will trigger or something else goes wrong.
Any words of insight, troubleshooting or advice? I'm guessing its electrical related, I don't fancy driving it around with the hazards flashing.

I want an m235i :( Was behind one today and they are gorgeous. Then it booted it as we both exited a T junction and it left me and my Fiesta ST for dust :D:(

It has made me really want one though and would be hugely tempted to get one as my next car at some point if finances permit.

I was quite surprised at just how much quicker it was than my car actually but then read it has 110 more horses and 120nm more torque so I guess that will do it :p

How on earth do you get map updates? I've googled it and only thing I can find on the BMW site is how to update, but it assumes you already have the map updates on a USB drive.

My whole development isn't in the system yet so was wondering if an update had come out since April last year which included it

EDIT - Ignore me, it appears it's done automatically over the air...oops :X

Soooo... my dreams of a GT3 got dashed the other day... but I had the perk of the MD of the company I'm working for approve an M2/M4 as a company car out of the blue... he started the conversation and I certainly didn't say no, hehe. Probably helps that I won them the renewal of a lucrative contract and have made/saved them money elsewhere.

Looking at options now - went to test drive a manual M2 today - that was fun but found it a little lacking in power and the interior quite poor compared to the M4.

Sat in an M4, but test driving one tomorrow... the seats are wonderful - most comfortable seats I've found in any car so far.

The company prefer buying second hand cars a year or two old with a low mileage outright and then selling them in a few years - rather than going the new/lease route.

Wondering what options I should be aiming for?

Competition pack is the highest on my list... the improved exhaust & suspension adjustments will give the car a bit more excitement. Those comp wheels happen to be stunning in the flesh too - pictures don't do them justice - although image is secondary to feel to me.
Harmon Kardon is probably second.
I'd love the LED dynamic lights - I have them on the C63 I'm driving at the moment and they're a wonderful feature.
I like DCT, especially as a commuter, but then most cars have that - so that's easy to find. The auto-blip on the manual is more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
Lumbar support option is something I want.

HUD is a "nice to have"

Colour is one of my last preferences... but if I get to choose then I think Sakhir Orange II / Mineral White (with the black accents) are my two favourite... it's a shame they don't do the metallic mid-blue you can find on the M5/M2 as I like that colour and Yas Marina Blue is too light for my liking. Austin Yellow is strangely alluring.

Interior colours I don't really care about as long as it isn't puke inducing.

I found one for the same price with carbon ceramics as cars without them - but the BMW sales guy was saying that they don't last very long and can get incredibly expensive.

Anything to look out for? Anything I'm missing?

Thanks

Quote from an indy of £554.92 for front dics and pads (F10). Sound reasonable?

Er....no? Approaching £600 for a set of front discs and pads on a diesel BMW is just mental. The only time I'd ever pay that is if i suddenly decided that i had too much money sitting in my bank account. These days we pay for everything electronically and i think we've lost a lot of appreciation of money. It's a whole lot easier to allow yourself to put £600 on a credit card than it is to hand over £600 of cash.

As i posted previously, you can get discs and pads for your car for less than £200 and someone to fit them for a couple of hours labour. This will give you £250 in your pocket to spend on something other than brake discs whilst also having new brake discs!

OEM discs, pads and sensors for £200?

Even the ATE discs from Eurocarparts are 200 each before discount (300 a pair with current prices).

Brakes on the F10 are annoyingly expensive, not really sure what it being diesel has to do with it mind. The 535i has the same brakes, iirc.

You could source the parts from ECP for about 350-380 I'd guess.

BMW used Textar, Pagid and ATE in the past for discs/pads. No idea if this is still the case today. I think ATE is indeed the one most commonly found on all models.

Diamondcut wheels! They look absolutely awesome when clean, or at night as lights refract off the surface... But my god are they delicate flowers :/

These are stone chips on my rear passenger side one, the other side has no chips at all, they already have started to grow in size as water ingress takes place :(

It seems to be an impossible thing to avoid. They simply will corrode from even the smallest chip or scratch speeding up moisture build-up.

I am going to slowly start looking at wheel replacements, CSL wheels are the logical choice, but they are not value for money. I've also considered 18" wheels from BBS or Apex (likely the ARC-8) which are both highly regarded. No rush though, will let these wheels eat themselves a bit more first...

I do like apex arc 8! :) I had a quote from a company in uk that imports them at 1620 for a set of staggered 18s.. Apex site seems to be around 1450ish with VAT and Delivery. So 2k+ with a decent set of tyres.

I'm more tempted to get a set of BBS CH's or CH Rs at that price tbh.

then again I'm happy with my current style 224 set.
