BMW and M Power Owners

Hi, couple of bits on my 640D that are really bugging me and i wondered if anyone can confirm whether they are 'normal' or whether they are issues that need sorting:
  1. When the wipers are on auto' they never return fully to the bottom of the screen when resting but instead always sit about 2cm above their normal stopped position. Should this be happening??
  2. When my phone (iPhone 6S) is connected to the audio (Bluetooth or USB) and I select a new track or artist it takes around 5 secs before the new track plays.
Minor niggles in what is otherwise a fantastic car but it would be good to hear the experiences that others have of this.

Thanks.

1) The wipers are designed to do that as a visual queue of them being in auto.

2) Never noticed that in mine, what is the music source on the phone ?

Thanks. A 'visual cue' for them seems an unnecessary annoyance but hey-ho.

The music source on the iPhone is the phone's default music app. Got to say that I am not all that impressed with the media & bluetooth integration. If Spotify or Audible are loaded on the phone then they play by default and there is no way to access the iPhone music app. The 5 sec' delay is also annoying. Maybe they do this deliberately to try and encourage an upgrade to Apple Car Play.

Ah, I've never tried to play Apple Music. Always Spotify which has worked flawlessly. I will test it and see what happens in mine.

Picked up my M235i today and thought I'd share initial impressions with you. Here's my recent car history:
  • 2006 e92 335d remap (500lb/ft & 340bhp), driven 2012 - 2014
  • 2014 f34 330d GT XDrive MSport+ (standard), driven 2014 to present
The car I've just bought is a 2015 f22 M235i. It has the M Performance bodykit and exhaust along with a decent spec list.

Initial impressions are very positive indeed. I am pleased to be back in a smaller car after the GT and this engine feels immense. The exhaust note is perfect with plenty of pops in sport mode but no drone when in comfort mode. I like BMW interiors and the 2 series feels very similar in fit and finish to the GT, albeit a little more compact. The pro nav/screen/iDrive is a big upgrade on the small one I had in the GT - it seems to have a better framerate too :p.

I'm tempted to take the car for a power run on a rolling road as the performance has really blown me away. If this really is running standard power (circa 330hp) then I'm not sure I will get a remap as I had originally planned, at least not for a while yet.

I had planned to modify the car once the initial warranty is up in January 2018 (Eventuri intake, performance downpipe and remap) but I'm not sure if that will be needed now as the car is so quick as-is! I do fancy changing the wheels for something in an E46 CSL style (BBS CH-R perhaps) but that will likely be next Summer now.

I now want to get the car detailed and protected as the last owner has done a great job looking after the paint (in general) and I don't want to let it degrade on my watch. If anyone has recommendations for a detailer West of Birmingham (Stourbridge area if you know it) then please let me know. I may also take a look at getting a few bits coded like folding the mirrors when locking the car (which should be an iDrive option in my opinion).

I'm looking to buy a 5 series ActiveHybrid from a main dealer in the next few months.

Budget is around £22k, and am planning on paying all in cash. However, I've heard that if I take out a finance package through the dealership I should be able to get a better deal on the car than paying all in just cash. If I take the lease option, I'll pay the entire lease off immediately anyway so the interest charges would be negligible.

Should I push for a low deposit and a really long lease? If I went with this I'd imagine they'd knock more off the car as they'd be making money off the interest over the next 3 years?
Or should I go for a higher deposit and lower lease length?

I have never been able to secure a better deal using the dealer finance than with cash - I've always asked the question and the answer has always come back that it doesn't make enough difference. This is a different story on new cars which are manufacturer supported and where the best deal is almost always on some sort of finance.

Whereas by comparison, I have nearly always secured a better deal. They will discount cash, but not as much as with finance. Remember, taking a finance option benefits the dealership and the salesman, irrespective of if you pay it off within the 14 day cooling off period. OK, sometimes it might only be £500-£1k more, but that's still 10-15 tanks of fuel.

One more data point here... Dealership I was speaking to today couldn't do anything better if I took the finance but they did offer to look at the % rate if I wanted to take it.
