BMW and M Power Owners

Had enough of the bills on my Skoda Octavia VRS. Loved the car but have had bad luck with it. Just ordered a 2017 530e M Sport on NHS Fleet Solutions lease. 2 years, 14k miles per year allowance, £384pm, insured, taxed, maintained :)

Interesting - the same car on the National Grid Salary Sacrifice scheme (Tusker) is £620pm net for 15k miles pa.

None whatsoever. It's a true lease. Just 24 payments of £384 and I hand the car back. It's a salary sacrifice scheme available to NHS and local government staff.
Wow - that really is cheap !!
Cheaper than my new 520d order which comes with no maintenance or insurance over 10k pa

I'm no lease expert, but that sounds like a very good deal then although it shouldn't require much maintenance beyond a single service in 24 months. The only thing I don't like about the 530e is how obnoxiously large that charging port's flap is!

Possibly. I'm not sure exactly how they've got it so cheap, but it literally includes everything. Literally, the only other thing I have to pay for outside of the monthly deduction is petrol. Tyres, wiper blades, wear and tear; it's all covered.

Now the bad points... damage and excesses are very pricey. They basically expect the car back pristine by the end, and there are excesses to pay if I get points on my license. Going over mileage allowance is charge at 8.4p per mile, and early termination of contract (except for redundancy etc.) is pricey. On a three year lease, it 6, 3, 1 months; so 6 month's payments if you were to terminate the contract in the first year. Ouch!

Those bad points which you listed apply to any lease vehicle. The excess mileage on my 520d is 17p per mile.

Your car sounds too cheap.
It's not possible to lease a 530e SE with a monthly payment lower than £400, plus an initial payment (£2k+) and that's without maintenance and insurance.

What can I say, it's a good deal. I'm not lying, nor have a I made any mistake. It's different to PCP, and I will never have the option to buy the car at the end.

The NHS lease site solutions has it at £365 for 6k mile pa : https://www.nhsfleetsolutions.co.uk/offers-1/bmw-5-series-530e-m-sport-4dr-auto-2.aspx

Even so, it's a very good deal.

Yeah that's the one. I upped my mileage to 14k per year, bringing the price up to £373 and change. With two additional named drivers and everything else included.

Do a quote for a higher emission car like a 530i or d etc, and watch the price go through the roof ;)

No, no you wouldnt!!
Yes I would. You have your opinion and I have mine.
As great as the engineering and weight saving BMW have implemented it's still a compromise between road and track :)

Also, using the 'icon reborn' for a CS !?!?! - they should have saved that line for a new CSL !!

Yep - it's a great deal.
I have less sympathy for NHS workers complaining about their 'low' salaries now, when they have access to rent new cars significantly cheaper than what is available to the general public. i.e. - that car is a £3k saving per year.

Yes and no. A car does not necessarily equal salary IMO. If I had to have one or the other, I'd rather the £384 in my pocket, but because I have that choice and can afford it, I've chosen to have a mint car for two years. I'm going to have to be a bit more strict with my casual spending for a while, as despite all the bills etc on the current car, this new lease is averaging about £150 a month more expensive. No brainer though when you compare a brand spankers 5 series PHEV against a 10 year, 82k mile old Skoda :D

No it isn't, it's only available if the trust they work for is part of the scheme which many are not.
Yeah, not all do and all have different emission caps too. My last job was with the local council and I could not get a mk3 VRS through that due to the emission rating. My current job, which is an Academy Trust that gets payroll from the council, is entitle to the scheme and we do not have a cap. The mk3 VRS started at £395 ish a month, so for me, it was a no brainer to get the better BMW for less.

I'd imagine for some reason they have a bunch of stock cars rather than new factory orders hence the deal, the link shows only 3 colours to select and you can't add any optional equipment.

I asked that question for that very reason, and I can confirm it's not a case of cars just sat in a warehouse, however they do exist and are under the 'In Stock' section. The special offers (like the one I went for) are orders that have already been submitted to and processed by BMW, but have are not yet assigned to an employee; it's a first come, first serve basis.

The NHS just assume that x amount are likely to order the cars and I assume try to beat the lead time. Good news for me is that my car is not a new order going to BMW, meaning that I shouldn't get the 6month+ wait for a PHEV like I would had I ordered retail.

The other big benefit is that if I'm made redundant half way into the contract length, I give the car back and the employer pays the termination fees. I'd be stuck with payments had I been on PCP etc.
