BMW and M Power Owners

Alpina B5? not a fan
M6? 5 seats required, i like the GC but to be honest prefer the m5 looks
M3/4? not a fan of the new engine, to be honest i have been to test drive one of these as i do like the looks of the m3 5 dr but the engine just doesn't do it for me
C/E63? haha Merc ... im not that age yet although they sound sublime

Fair enough. M3 is an epic machine but I can understand if the engine doesn't do it for you.

Why do you say you're too young for the Mercs? The AMGs are complete animals. They're not exactly S500s..

What about a G55? Had a nosey round one the other day. That thing is epic :p

Have a go yourself then dude, Insp 2 doesn't look that taxing I'd you're not afraid of getting your hands dirty.

Having said that, I see you're in Berks, I know of a place in Lambourn who is trustworthy if you want a once over? Not a BMW specialist but the owner did own an E46 at one point so they do know their stuff, plus it's all generic stuff anyway.

Thanks for the offer Sigs. I think for now I'll try K&M for the Inspection 2 and general look-over, especially as they're 5 minutes from the office!

I've been reading the BMW Insured Warranty handbook and am struggling to find the part that says it must be serviced at BMW (my internetting results had both viewpoints). I expect I'll end up calling a phone number and try and get someone at BMW to sign in blood whether I can be covered by warranty or not.
Perhaps this link to the handbook works. No mention of dealer for servicing as far as I can see.

I just not really a Merc man, i dont like the interior nor exterior of them but do love the AMG engines.

Also the M3 I really wanted to like, as a smaller car compared to the m5, more aggressive looks but the engine really didn't do it for me, also the interior is not a special place at all. I like the fact that there are a lot more aftermarket parts for the car and a greater following. The M5 forum etc is dead.

What is it with dealers repeating their finance options multiple times even after you've told them you will be paying cash? It's like thwy are being forced to at gunpoint!

Called sytner about a car, they asked what finance option I prefer, I said I'm paying cash, they said "oh, are you taking a bank loan?" which was a bit strange for them to ask but I said no and thought that would be then end of it but they then proceeded to explain all their finance options to me whilst I continue to say no, no finance please.

Fast forward to today when I'm in the dealership and they go through it all again even though I've said I'm not taking any finance. Then once I've paid the deposit another lady came over with her laptop and asked me a bunch of questions about how I will be paying and that she has to explain all their finance options to me even though I'm paying cash....

Why????

I don' understand, is it some legal clause of theirs? Or just pushy dealership practices? Just wasting everyone's time, and it's not like it's a quick explanation of each one either :(

Grrr!!!

@Regy53 - if you don' mind going a generation older, the V10 M5 has the most exciting engine BMW have used. The F10 is dull in its power delivery, the E60 is a beast :) They'e also a future classic and if you get the touring you'll never lose any money. - someone who really regrets selling his V10 :(

@Griffo - I would not bother with a warranty on the e46 325, I gave my '04 e46 325 coupe to my sister who still has it and goes London to midlands and back regularly without issue. It's been going strong for the past 8 years of our combined ownership. Don't waist 7 bills a year, save or for a rainy day :)

I thought you'd bought that big spec 535d? Did it fall through? What have you gone for instead?

Thanks Fox, NVP, Sigma! I think I'll take your advice here. Will just keep the slush fund topped up.

Did a trip to the Midlands and back yesterday and it goes lovely and comfortable :).

There is an odd whine from the rear when stationary I've noticed a couple of times. I assume it's the end of the world but will mention to the garage.

Nah I'm still in that, absolutely loving it although dropping it to BMW tomorrow for the bumper to be repaired after that muppet taxi driver went into the back of me - not sure what hire car I'll be getting. Need to do a write up on the handling of this thing though, it is almost the perfect car - just needs more power, better delivery and bigger breaks :)

Was at the dealership to quickly get a car for the wife as I don't like the idea of her driving my son around in her plastic toy 207! Gone for a 320i xdrive - seems decent enough a car and much safer :) the majority are all bloody poverty spec though which seems ridiculous for the money, some people hey? :)

Just checked my email and they'e sent me all the finance documents and blurbs again??!! Wtf??

Sounds like you need an M550d Touring. Surely worth putting up with LHD for? :p

Uh oh you know what that means... better get back on the phone to the warranty people asap!!

Haha joke ;)

Fuel pump maybe? Not sure, I honestly know nothing about how cars work, only how to drive them haha

Haha 550i maybe... the diesels (and turbos to an extent) kill the joy of driving a little bit, well quite a bit. If I wasn't doing 100+ miles a day I'd be back in a V10 without hesitation.

Give me a few more years of saving and I'll get me a 911 weekender to put some joy back into my life.

They perhaps make more money from the financial side?

My brother in law has exactly the same thing, bought an M4 and 1 series outright yet they still email him offering to finance (refinance?) the purchase, they seem programmed to push finance to the extreme.

My auto E39 cut out when putting it into reverse this morning, engine and gearbox warm after a 12 mile/30 min trip. No warning, it just stalled. I turned the ignition off and on again, and the gearbox operated as it should.

Arrived home this afternoon and the car didn't cut out this time.

Anything to be overly concerned about? Time to lubricate my wallet?

They would make more money! Bl**dy salesmen! I told them all through the process of buying mine that I would be paying cash for my car. They tried 3 times to go to finance whereby I would save £2k off the price, when I humored them they told me their interest rate was circa 10% (can't recall the exact figure now) - I lol'd!

It's absurd. Who would take finance from BMW when a bank will give you far more attractive rates??!
