BMW and M Power Owners

Yep - it's a great deal.
I have less sympathy for NHS workers complaining about their 'low' salaries now, when they have access to rent new cars significantly cheaper than what is available to the general public. i.e. - that car is a £3k saving per year.

just lol,

And actully look at the deal closer, the true cost is £516.24 per month, but the payment is taken as a salary sacrifice so after Tax savings its £384.76 based on you being on the higher tax band.

normal salary deduction is £645.32 per month, you can find a better CH deal than that.

Understood, but that really only applies if the NHS deal isn't available. At the end of the day, the actual amount of money I lose in my pocket each month, whether it be via tax deduction or otherwise, is £384.76, not £516.24. You're also forgetting that my price is including insurance, servicing, Tax, MOT, tyres etc.

im not saying its a bad deal, but SDK is masking out like the government is subsidising NHS employee cars which they are not, the 530e is only working out well is because of the low BIK

The same car on our Salary Sacrafice scheme is £850, then £630 after tax savings, with the same BIK.

My point on the salary comment was that whilst pay for some NHS workers may have been stagnant for a few years, the whole employee remuneration benefit is probably very attractive.

If you have £350 spare a month to rent a car. Most people don’t though so a discount is good but doesn’t mean everyone can afford it.

well firstly your company probably just has not got a good deal with BMW. it's only £550 a month to rent one and that's without searching.

If you look at the rest of the deals they are really not that good which is why almost no one takes up the car but I will accept that this is not bad value. The NHS has introduced this scheme to reduce its costs and it actually saves the NHS money.

Back to your point, these are almost no benefits in the modern day NHS for clinical staff (doctors, nurses or any ones else with patient contact), pensions are not that good, a working week for doctors is 48h a week, everyone does lots of free goodwill hours and there are zero perks. I have worked in private industry and it's very different to the NHS.

Never looked at the NHS lease options before but speaking to colleagues some of the monthly figures being branded about were laughable for what they're driving. Is it worth looking into? Has anything changed?

One of my wife's colleagues just changed into a Mini (not sure on spec but can't imagine it being too flash) which costs her around £130 a month. All she needs to worry about is fuel, it does however mean she can only claim a lower rate on the fuel allowance but pretty much has a brand new mini costing her nothing after all expenses claimed.

My mum has just bought a 2013 520d with 30k miles on the clock and she was planning to have a the BMW extended warranty on it. She currently pays about £400pa for her E90 325i so was expecting it to be a little bit more, as it's a 5, but not much.

The BMW Warranty website is saying that it is going to be £1170pa with £100 excess and I must admit, I was very shocked at this too. Does anyone know if this is right? What do others pay?

That is the correct price when taking out a policy on a car that is out of warranty, on renewal you will get a discount which takes it down to £900 ish. BMW/Mini have seen some significant rises to certain models for the extended warranty.

For years now I've whinged on here about the ridiculous price of the 5 Series warranty - its significantly more than a 3 Series even though mechanically there is no real difference. So you can warrant a 435d xDrive Convertible for much less than a basic 520d manual...

Even worse is the poor Mini Cooper S - it's almost a thousand quid a year for a Cooper S diesel. Meanwhile, an identically engined 320d is half the price..

in general not really, they are quite expensive for example
Mini 1.5. 5 door, chill/media XL pack
via salary sacrifice £380
via salary deduction £470

It really depends. I'm guessing different health authorities have different rates but up here anything by Nissan, especially the leaf is dirt cheap. VW Golfs (all models) are really cheap but larger VWs quite pricey. Fords for some reason however are oddly expensive. I guess it's just down to whatever individual deals have been negotiated.

That's mental, so much so that I thought it *had* to be a mistake. I was telling her that the tech in the 5's isn't much/at all different to the 3's so there's no way it'll be 3x the price.

No matter how you look at, spending nearly £1200 (or £1300 if you use it once) on a warranty on a 4 year old 30k mile 520d is just nonsensical. It made sense for her to pay £400 odd a year for the peace of mind on her 325i, but £1200 makes no sense. Oh well!
