BMW and M Power Owners

Looks good SDK, hope he enjoys it. Still can't believe he went diesel though, the plum! Really like that colour too and now have a hankering for the carbon bits on mine.
I heard the 640i engine is actually not as good at the d?

Depends what you're looking for. I enjoyed it when I drove it, the major thing it has in its favour is sound. OK it's not a V8 but it sounds great compared to the diesel exhaust. As good as the 40d engine is, the exhaust and engine note still belay the fact that it's a diesel.

All of the petrol ones in his budget were SE's with a rubbish spec. He took me out in it and it didn't sound or feel like a diesel. Not as good sounding as his old 4.5 litre V8 though.

Looks awesome but that sticker has to go
When I first saw these stickers I thought “Why slap a £5 ebay tatty sticker on a £60k M5?” (Which was what it was on) I’ve subsequently seen a fair few cars with them so for whatever reason BMW must put them on, do they signify anything in particular?

Agree, it looks awful (the sticker) love the car though.

The car I borrowed from BMW yesterday had them on the skirts. Looked cheap.

Really like the 6, very nice :) For me, i would have the wheels repainted in silver, personal preference against black wheels.

They really don't! It's a car where black wheels work.

No it isn't.

The contrast of the brown tyre against black wheel looks horrible and at anything more than 2 feet away the darkness of the inside of the spoke blends with the colour of the wheel and you can barely even tell what style they are.

It's a fad which needs to go away fast as more and more used cars are fitted with them :(

You keep mentioning these brown tyres! I keep checking when I wash mine and they're yet to look brown.

Ruled out the 340i now. Just couldn't spend that much on a car with the same interior as my 135i.

540i was lovely inside, but sadly over my budget.

So its between the 530i or the S5.

Edit - dealer just called, he said I wouldnt be happy with the 530i based on what i have and im looking at. Suggested 530d. Off for a test drive in a bit.

Does not compute?

As a 340i driver have a look through BMW Approved used if thats an option to you. Mine had 600 miles on the clock, 6 months old and was £32k; with the options selected it was £17k off list.

Back from having the 530d for a few hours. Handed back the keys to an eager looking salesmen. Told him just not for me. The car felt huge, I know it’s a big car, but some cars hide there size well. This didn’t. The engine while strong, was just not for me either. I much prefer petrol engines, as only having a few thousand revs to play with leaves me a little cold. The gearbox didn’t seem as slick as the 340i either. It was faultless in that. In this it felt slower to react, and didn’t feel like it was predicting my moves like the 340is.

As a big lazy motorway cruiser it would be amazing, but that’s not what I want.

Shame the 340i interior just doesn’t float my boat, as it was lovely to drive.

On the way home I drove past the Audi garage and put down my deposit on the S5 in Mythos black.

The 5 Series was always more impressive - sadly after the E46 (perhaps the E90 still had it a bit) the 3 Series stopped being a small 5 Series and became more like a big 1 series and this is reflected in its interior design. I've no no need for the space a 5 Series offers and a 3 Series is arguably a better fit but the interior has always put me off. The dash is virtually identical to the 1 Series, in the 1 Series it feels well suited to a small entry hatch but in the 3 it robs of it any real sense of luxury and quality.

I'm in a similar situation but looking at 1 - 2 year old models. It looks like similar money will get me either an F31 340i or an F11 535i. At that price point, which is the most sensible buy? I know they are both essentially "old tech".

I need to get some test drives in but either should feel like a big step up from my MK3 Focus ST estate
