BMW and M Power Owners

Picked up my 440i. Absolutely love it. However, I can't get connected drive to work. The app sends a message (after I've manually entered the VIN) but it never appears in messages in iDrive. Any thoughts?

Obligatory photos:

Nice, how come you didn't go for an M4? I made a comment once about a 440i being the sensible choice, but actually an M4 is going to be similar to run and probably hold value better. With the current M4 discounts I don't think there was much difference in new cost?

In any case, lovely motor

@Murf I couldn’t get that to work on mine either. In the end I googled connected drive, found an email and emailed them. Got a reply in German even though I had selected that I was in the uk. Replied stating the same in both English and translated German. Got another reply in German so repeated the above. Then forgot about it but eventually I got a reply from the uk team who asked for proof of ownership and set it all up from their end.

End to end the above took around 3 weeks and for me some of the apps still don’t work properly so I don’t use it.

Ah, sounds like this is going to be a faff. Might drive down the dealer as it's only local. You're meant to be able to do it via USB cable in car, but that fails too. :/

I wanted 4 doors, and I couldn't get anywhere near the same discount or interest rate. If I enjoy this car as much over the next 3 years as over the last 2 days and my financial circumstances are the same or better I may go for an M3\M4 next time. But who knows where I'll be then. However, I've just moved from the wife's 150bhp Audi A3 to my own straight six BMW so I am very, very happy right now. :D

550i Is where it's at .

To be honest though, 54 plate, 120K miles, Full SH, 12 months MOT, looks in very good nick, nice interior with cream leather, wood, pro-nav (or whatever the equivelant was back then) etc, its up for £3750. Its an auto SE so I guess not the most desirable spec in some ways. But it sounds like if a handful of things went wrong it could easily cost me that much again quite quickly... :p

I do want a stupid luxobarge somewhen, wanted to try one for a while but the potential maintenance costs are the killer for me. Just cannot afford them in addition to the E30 resto as well. So will have to wait!

I’m confused, why does a 440i have 4 doors? I thought that’s what a 3 series was for and 4 series were the coupe versions...

There is a Gran Coupe version of the 4 series. So sporty look of the 4 series, and practicality of the 3 series by having 4 doors (slightly reduced rear seat space aside). Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned. Audi do similar with the A5 sportback which is a 4 door version of the 2 door A5 coupe.

Plus the 4 GC is a hatchback which is far more useful.

There is also the 3 Series GT which looks nearly identical to the 4 GC but is slightly more upright/raised.

Thinking back to when I enabled BMW connectedD for my 5 Series. The App registration process did fail a couple of times but worked eventually.

The security code for activating your car is sent to your iDrive and should be obvious.

It is indeed. :)

I'll keep plugging away.

Have to admit, I can't believe how much better the 4 series handles than the A3 I was in before. That car had the S-Line suspension and transmitted every bump through your spine. With the adaptive dampers in comfort on the 4 series it's unbelievably better over bumps\potholes and feels so much more planted\secure on the road. Over the moon with it so far. :)

Got a link? - I’ve a friend with a fiscal death wish specifically after an e60 545/550 :)
