HUD is awesome. Getting the nav directions and my speed displayed on the road in front of me is very handy.
Stereo is crap being the base (LoFi) system, but the top Logic 7 system in the E64 is slightly better crap that's a pain to upgrade so I'm happy with this for now. New speakers (MB Quart) and some amplification will go in in the next few weeks.

The exhaust sounds fantastic by the way. Not boomy but howls when you press the loud pedal to the floor.

I'm sure @Peerzy will post about his replacement soon.

I love them, If I could afford it i'd buy a 650i with a Manual in a heartbeat.

I think we need a sound clip vid :)

If the car is under warranty, book it in, take the tech out in it to show the problem and then let them deal with it.

Different car but in my f30 the stop/start was pure crap and as rough as nails, dealer in Leicester claimed they are all like that, dealer down south investigates and updated the cars software and boy what a difference it has made. Still not as smooth as my wife’s Yaris but i no longer feel the urge to turn it off.
This would be a good first step, although the risk is that they will say "there's nothing wrong" and charge you for it.

Alternatively a good independent will sort you out - if you are around London then Jason at BW Chiptune is very well regarded in BMW circles. You can try with a gearbox software update first, which shouldn't invalidate your warranty. An engine remap would do so though, although it is a bit of a gray area on who needs to prove whether a potential failure was caused by the remap. Ie - your navigation failing after an engine remap is no issue, your turbo failing will probably get a few more questions asked.

Yes, simply measure the thickness of them. Wheel off, £6 measuring calipers.
Also if the have noticeable "lips" protruding at the edges then they should go.

Brakes depend very heavily on driving style, a "spirited drive" can chew at them straight away, whereas if you drive around quiet ish roads you barely touch them.

Thought id pop mine in here, had it about a year now, really enjoying it M235i

Wasn't sure I wanted it but mate encouraged me to get it and I am 101% glad I did, few added extras that you can see in the photos, I think the wheels transform this car as I am not a fan of the standard M235i or 135i/240i or 140i standard wheels, wasn't over impressed with the carbon to start with but its grown on me. Steering wheel is really nice to hold though

I am not 100% sure, in what way oddly proportioned?

I believe they are CSL replicas but I believe they come from BMW?? I could be 100% wrong though haha

If I am 100% honest not sure sorry I can probably find out as I still know the guy I brought it off.

Sods law that the 5 series will need a warranty repair before I sell it. I'm after a bit of advice as I have the extended warranty which I took out in December 2016 with a £100 excess. The car is coming up to 5 years old.

1. Driver side air spring has a leak. I had the passenger side repaired under warranty last March. My question at the time was would there be any issue with the driver side and should they not be replaced in pairs to which BMW said no. Now I have no doubt it will be replaced but I begrudge paying the excess, what are the odds I can argue the bit out with BMW and get them to waive it as goodwill?

2. The clear-coat just below the passenger headlight seems to be de-bonding and an area the size of an apple is exposed. I haven't gone through the warranty paperwork yet but am hoping someone here will know if I will have any joy in getting BMW to repair or if I am wasting my breath.

IIRC there is no requirement for them to be replaced in pairs and it's more unusual for the drivers side to need doing - the passenger side is the one that goes prematurely. I can't see why this wouldn't be a fresh claim.

Extended warranty does not cover paint. Wasting breath on this one I'm afraid!

Springs and tyres should always be replaced in pairs of two at least (because there's no way one with 80k miles will perform the same as a new one), but unfortunately in this day and age hardly anyone does. Given the cost of an air spring, I can see why they didn't.
Same with tyres, hardly anyone will swap both, yet there's quite a difference in the behaviour of a new tyre and one with 3-4mm of thread. One can argue that it won't be that noticeable in regular driving, but on the same logic you can argue against having decent (UHP) tyres in the first place.

It's not a spring, it's actually a bellow which splits with age - they either work or they don't, rather than a shock absorber which degrades with age, hence they don't get replaced as a pair.

Thanks, I'll try my luck on the excess anyhow and see where it gets me. For the bumper I will avoid the BMW body shop, straight to a guy I trust then and stomach the cost for a bumper respray, hopefully £250-300 and he can touch up a couple of small things at the same time to make the sale a bit easier.
