I think I have found a compatible part on eBay. 49.99 so cheap to buy, it shouldn't cost much to get one fitted right?

Ok that part looks different to the one on eBay, I must have got it wrong. But it's still a reasonable price, would it cost much to fit, do you think?

Item 1 is £92.51 for a 125i coupe. The guys gonna send me a picture tomorrow so I can hopefully identify the part.

A tough decision, will I really need ~1500 of repairs over 2 years / 12k miles? I suppose the issue is that although on the whole the later cars seem more reliable it only takes one thing to go wrong to wipe that out.
Probably not, but, if your engine decides to go bang or the gearbox decides to take itself for lunch then £1500 will seem a bargain compared to what BMW will charge you for an O.E.M. replacement.

Just like your car insurance, it saves you from a huge fiscal hit should the worse happen except the former is mandatory the latter is up to you and your bank balance in the case of it all going south.

If in your own words one thing going wrong will wipe you / £1500 out (I’m not sure which you mean) then the warranty is well worth it for peace of mind!
 
Got a blowout after hitting a rock pretty hard in lake district (entirely my bad) in my 240i.

Pretty impressed with it all, car sensor said it was flat, showed temperature so it didn't get too high and said no more than 80km/h so drove pretty easily to nearest BMW garage (25 miles ish) where I was impressed again, charged 140 for new 245/35 r18 runflat and 18 for fitting and balancing and they had it in stock. They checked the alloy and said it was all good. I was pretty surprised it was so cheap and quick (ofc you can probs get them cheaper but for same day fitting from main dealer).

Overall runflats don't seem too bad to me, I'm a little confused at all the flack these tyres get now :/

For the 99% of the time you don't have a puncture they are louder, less comfortable and more expensive :p
 
The tyre hardly saved the day there assuming that a non RFT car would have at least a space saver spare. The situation on my non RFT cars would be to stop, change the tyre (all of 10mins?) and then carry on with the day. Then when home have the tyre repaired if possible, or get a replacement at a more competitive price.

Added to this, i do ~30k miles per year, and even then i have had only a handful of punctures in my life.
 
Thing is on space saver just like runflat I'd be limited to 80km/h anyways so apart from distance runflat meant I didn't have to change a tyre in a tiny lane.

You'd have been able to repair the puncture though.

Every single non runflat puncture I've ever had cost a tenner to fix.
 
This isn't a very good assumption though as very few have one.
Without a spare...i would absolutely always run RFTs. Punctures while rare, can happen at any time including on the way into meetings/appointments, they are not something i would wish to have my day totally disrupted over.

Technically you can repair a puncture on a run flat only most tyre places say you can’t but most manufacturers say you can fix them just like a normal tyre. I guess the problem is that you have to drive to the tyre place to begin with which means the tyre has to go in the bin.
 
Quick one... going to look at an LCI F30 330d Xdrive tomorrow for a friend. He lives 250 miles away but the car is local to me. Anything I should look out for on the F30 i.e. common issues? These are still N57 based aren't they, which is pretty reliable?
 
If it's lci it should still be under bmw warranty. So just check its service history and general condition.
 
What's the consensus on older BMWs with higher mileage? Looking to replace my 04 Focus 1.6 and saw a few 06-08 1 and 3 series with about ~90k on the clock. Price seems to be 3k-4k.

Which engines? A lot of the 4 cylinders in the 1 and 3 series from the E87 & E90 era are absolute ***** and are to be avoided

More hassle than they are worth.
