BMW and M Power Owners

Because it's addictive? And i enjoy driving quick. And while it's not a 'super lightweight car' it is pretty ******* quick...

I kind of know what you're saying. I haven't got a ticket yet in my 335 (clean license) but im increasingly paranoid that i will be getting one soon. I think I was flashed on the m25 a few weeks ago, but no ticket came.

These cars are quick, and they also feel 'normal' at speed, so you do need to be very conscious of your speed, and remind yourself to reign it in. A bit of mild speeding can easily escalate!

Absolutely. It's ridiculous that our speed limits were set in what, the 70's? and yet despite that incredible advances in technology in grip, braking and of course engines we haven't even thought about looking to see if they need adjusting. Again, Germany, i topped the car out on the Autobahn (I had to at least once, didn't I :P ) and at 160(indicated) the car was so planted and comfortable at that speed.

So what you need to do is pay attention whilst driving. Which...you know...you should be doing anyway?

However, since the 70s, we have had a massive increase in traffic density...but I don't disagree with your point.

On an unrelated note, I saw an (E53?) X5 this weekend. I think it was a 4.8iS or possibly a 4.4 with the 4.8iS wheels. It rumbled past slowly breathing out of what was clearly a modified exhaust. It sounded fantastic.

I've been looking at old V8 X5s on the Autotrader this morning.

Anybody have any dealing with BM Automotive near Wolverhampton? - http://www.bmautomotivesolutions.co.uk

I'm considering my options for my e38's next service (Inspection II) and I'm looking at alternatives to dealers given those I've spoken to seem uninterested at best and I'm looking at circa £580 - with considerable haggling - from them, the general consensus from the e38 groups I'm a member of is steering me toward using a specialist but part of me equally wants to maintain its meticulous BMW history...

It's a long term keeper so ultimate resale value isn't really my goal, but it's a consideration of course,I just want it looking after correctly but without having my pants pulled down....

More than willing to travel for the right place although unfortunately Munich Legends are a bit too far. :D

Any recommendations gratefully received. :)
Well, got a reply to my enquiry this morning....

Hi,

For a Full Inspection 2 service, following BMW service schedules and using only BMW genuine parts, the total cost would be £650 inc vat,

Very surprised by that one!

Looks like it’ll be BMW after all!

A lot of the time the difference in cost between the independent specialist and dealership service cost can be next to nothing.

Always worth checking what offers they have got and whether they can match the price to retain that FBMWSH. Some people choose indies for reasons other than costs.

The £650 was from the independent, Stratstone BMW Derby quoted £580, Blue Bell BMW Crewe £565.

Definitely going to keep the dealer history now.

I never said that you didn't. It is self evident that in a faster mode powerful car you need to be more conscious of your speed than in a slow car. In my old v70, it took a long time to break the speed limit!

I am quite surprised I have not had any speeding offences in the 2 years we have had the 340i. I dont really drive like a nutter everywhere but often have a little blast, some ill advised speeds.

Use Waze :p

Oh I like that. What a great unit. What's it called and how much are they? Certainly something I'd fit in a nice E46/39, if the opportunity permits.

Lots of Chinese makers doing these on eBay etc but mine is by Erisin who seemed to be the only ones at the time that used OEM style buttons so it all looked factory finish instead of aftermarket in the centre console. I paid £260 odd for it. I only use it for Spotify and Waze really along with Clipboard sync between all my devices so I can send snippets, text and stuff between them.

Can someone explain 4-door 4 series to me. I thought the 4 series was a 2-door coupe, but I have seen several with 4. I thought that I was imagining it at first, but i saw another one today!
(I'm not talking about the gran coupe, which has a completely different shape).

There is no 4 door 4 series, you are thinking of the 5 door Gean Coupe which is a hatchback.
