Slow Diesel cars, yes. Fast diesel cars, they definitely have a place.Paddles are pointless on diesels to be honest

Had my 330d for a month now and have tried the paddles once, with a great auto box there is no need for them, maybe I’m lazy but I very rarely come out of auto.
Yeah it seems the common concensus is that nobody uses them.
Thanks for your advice everyone!
Paddles are the only way to shift down to force engine braking on hills now, right? How long will it actually stay in a gear at higher revs?
How? You rarely need to drop it a gear to get it to go, nor hold onto the revs until redline in any diesel.Slow Diesel cars, yes. Fast diesel cars, they definitely have a place.
How do you select ratios with bmw gear shifter? No, most have the ability to select ratios with the shifter. In fact, I can't think of a car that doesn't other than Jaguars but they all have paddles.

Wouldnt miss mine at all, never use them. (Diesel auto with paddles). The thing which catches me out is turbo lag, not the box really.Slow Diesel cars, yes. Fast diesel cars, they definitely have a place.
I test drove a merc cla45 that couldn't, that and the fact it was slow put me off.No, most have the ability to select ratios with the shifter. In fact, I can't think of a car that doesn't other than Jaguars but they all have paddles.

You must be used to an extremely fast car to have that perspective of a <4s 0-60 car.I test drove a merc cla45 that couldn't, that and the fact it was slow put me off.
Hmm....I test drove a merc cla45 that couldn't, that and the fact it was slow put me off.
My car at the time was a 911 turbo, the cla was about 50hp down if I remember right. Very soft as well. I'm sure it's a nice car but it just felt slow. Fair enough if you think it's a ******** post but that was my opinion. Also I have no idea if my car had previously been remapped so it's possible it was higher than standard. Also 0-60 is not everything. This might be obvious but it had none of the theatre I was used to.Hmm....
Pray tell, what do you consider “fast” ?
