BMW and M Power Owners

I tried however as i already have one i need to ring up :(. Its my first bmw and i believe there are several levels of cover?
Indeed there are, look on the link, it’s all there.
£4683 when it’s 61k Miles !

Just looked up an 80k mile e60 M5 warranty out of curiosity - £4783 with £100 excess, given the potential of bankruptcy that would give you it almost represents good value. :p:D

I wouldn’t have thought yours was quite as high a risk as the e60 which has potential for a fair few horrific bills, then again either premium is vastly cheaper than a new engine or gearbox for either car.....

Been driving an 18 plate 320d since Monday. Back to my old car today, but the 420d 320d is the worst thing I have ever driven. It was fully spec'd with the M package which made it look good but was horrible to drive and the engine was so loud in a grating way. The ZF(?) in anything but manual or sport plus was also terrible.

Makes me really appreciate the B58 engine and a manual gearbox.

Seriously?!

It changed quickly and shifts were smooth, but slow to respond to throttle input which I guess isn't necessarily the fault of the gearbox.

Also it definitely doesn't shift at what I would call sensible points but is rather random at which RPM it shifts which makes it very difficult to moderate the throttle input to stop massive (i may be exaggerating) changes in torque as you are driving. At least in sport plus it isn't shifting as much and is more predictable, manual obviously removes the problem entirely.

I haven't owned an automatic car and have only driven them as courtesy/hire cars. So maybe you just have to get used to it, but the lack of control exhibited by behaviour above makes it a terrible experience for me.

I think gearbox adaption plays apart in this. My friend thought mine was rubbish when he borrowed it. He took me for drive and the box was all over the place at roundabouts/junctions, reset the adaption at it was much better for him.

I forgot about that even though I've read threads about the adaptation. I shall remember to do a reset next time I drive a ZF gearbox car.

But you are comparing a straight 6 with loads of power to a diesel?

The ZF in my 335i is an animal in Sports Plus mode and a dozy little Koala in Comfort and I simply love it.

I got the auto box because of lower back issues, having to pump the clutch in stop-start traffic was doing my back in and was dreading having to go auto. A long time ago I had an auto company car which I absolutely hated. Yes there are occasions where there are delays in Comfort mode but then I am choosing to drive at that sedate pace but I can just flick and wake it up.

On the motorways I've even put it in Eco-Pro mode to see how many miles I've saved/accumulated :)

Just check, for clarification i see theres 3 options, but when i type my reg in i get 'We have found an existing warranty for your car and would like to discuss what Insured Warranty options are available to you. Please call BMW Insured Warranty Services on 0345 641 9790 to speak to a member of our team who will be happy to help you.' I guess its due to it being the AUC warranty rather than the normal extended one. I think i might go for the mid range one as a 5 grand limit seems low if the rod bearings go.

I’d say as already mentioned the gearbox adaptation was way askew or something wrong with it, I’ve now driven a few automatic f30 320d’s and an f20 118d for direct comparison with my partners manual one and the gearbox is fantastic and absolutely transforms the drive, it’s smooth intuitive, changes up or down just when you expect it to and the difference in the various modes is noticeable.

Perhaps you just don’t gel with automatics? I’d doubt it with this one though it’s one of the best gearboxes I’ve ever used.

This is because you already have a BMW warranty. I mean it's kinda self explanatory :D

It’s because you’ve got the AUC warranty - my partner gets the same result if we check hers - I’d phone them and have a chat, you should get it offered at a discount as part of the AUC package.

She’s probably going comprehensive on hers although the premium on a 118 is a fair bit less - £675 p/a for comprehensive as opposed to £597 for named component, for £78 more it’s a no brainer and as I say because it’s AUC she should get a discount on top of that.

I was only getting 30mpg average over the few days. So maybe just my driving style is poorly suited.

240i I have a 25mpg long term average for identical journeys.

Something isn't consistent here.

Yeh it did surprise me. To be fair we are talking 10-12 miles of city driving each way, not the best environment for a diesel to shine.

Either way, not my car, so just gonna assume the adaptation was messed up.

I’ve tried a few auto 320d’s this week as my partner is after one, we’ve not reset the OBC in any we’ve tried from the dealers we’ve been to and assume most have just been used recently for relatively short test drives arguably shorter journeys than your commute - all of them are in the low 40’s for average mpg when we’ve had a look, the highest overall average looking deeper in idrive was a 65 plate 320d Sport that had averaged 56mpg over the previous 7k miles which stood out!

They all seem consistently better on mpg than my partners manual 118d which I think says a lot for the automatic box, back in the day an auto took a real mpg hit, these days it’s quite the reverse it seems.

I've averaged 51.5 mpg in my 520d over 11,000 miles, which mostly consists of 2x 20 mile commutes each day and some stop start trips at the weekend. The regen battery system on coast in comfort mode means I rarely need to brake in moving traffic.

Not sure what you mean by this? I don't think it does anything that would increase braking capacity. It just disengages and engages the alternator based on charging needs.

There feels more engine braking when the display indicator moves towards the battery icon.
