BMW and M Power Owners

There is similar with other BMW services, for example I have remote services so I can unlock/lock, recycle the air or take a 3D image of where my car is parked via the BMW Connected app. It seems this was 'free' when my X3 was made so it was enabled indefinitely, yet another friend who is poster @Dandle here with a slightly later car (same G01 m40i model) had to take out a free trial and then pay a subscription if he wanted to keep it.

I’ve been looking at:

https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/...quoteref=d304a099-2e73-4cc9-9909-744fc10585d2

It’s a bit light on options but low mileage. What option do I need to play Spotify through the stereo? Can I play podcasts and Spotify with all stereos but only need the option for the app to appear on the console?

I use playlists or podcast and like the ability to skip tracks. Do I even need the option to do this? I find the connected drive/remote service/online services confusing.

That car will play Spotify through either usb or Bluetooth and allow track skipping. If you have an iPhone and the car has BMW apps interface then you can do full Spotify integration on idrive. Can be a bit flakey though.

researching a bit :
It seems, for streaming service, you need to go with the inbuilt deezer app for best integration and music quality but they're going to charge you £160 p/a ! really

Other than that, they do not seem to document what (a2dp) bluetooth profiles are available, or usb streaming option, most likely limited to 160Kb/s.
so not going to get the same quality as a CD changer, and, there would be no point have a hifi/cd quality tidal subscription on your phone

I think it's funny that in such a noisy environment such as a car people think source quality matters
I can discrimante a high quality source in a car. ]

you'd be better off using the aux input via a device like a chromecast audio for quality (but not Idrive integration), even then it's going to be digitized before being converted back to analog if you have a HK/Logic7 system.

You need to plug the phone in with a cable and have the BMW apps interface.

You get full wireless Spotify control with the later I-drive systems. Works reliably in our Mini. This is with CarPlay disabled I’m not sure if it uses hybrid Bluetooth/WiFi for the connection as even with CarPlay disabled the phone still appears to connect to the WiFi connection.

Would 17k miles on a 3.5 year old diesel put you off? It is very low mileage and if I’m good condition would be tempting. It’s difficult to know how to trade off mileage and age for options.

I find approved used difficult when you have choice and options. When I bought my Cayman price limited me to only a couple of cars so spec was never an issue!

Wouldn’t be surprised if a deal was done with apple where they point blank refuse to support android auto if the license fee is waivered.
Lack of android auto support is such a ball ache!

I’m in wrong thread for that as my car has CarPlay and Android Auto. :p
Also Bluetooth streaming, including album art, in case you want Spotify through neither of those systems or even the Incontrol apps native screen mirroring (that’s only really now useful for shell payments).

Was £200 option as it launched but it tending to be standard on JLR vehicles.

should be bluetooth if carplay is disabled - have(can?) you looked to see what codec it uses
[ which codecs are best ]

I don't have an Android phone I'll confirm them when a friend comes round with one. I have checked further the full control is over bluetooth the phone held the WiFi connection as I just switched the car to phone apps from CarPlay. With a freshly paired phone with phone apps only it doesn't make a WiFi connection and still has full control.

I was having play with the system in a new Range Rover Sport it is very good JLR has finally got a system I would say is as good as BMW/Audi/Merc even better in some aspects the dual screen CarPlay control is the best implementation I have seen of it. I also noticed they have got better software on the autobox. Did JLR steal software engineers from BMW/Audi ? :p

The upgraded Jlr systems seem quite good but the stock systems are still crap
