BMW and M Power Owners

i dont mind 30mpg at all im getting that now, just not something low 20s. The main selling point is from what ive read its a great all rounder and i like the look of one of them that ive seen.

No need for the sarcastic remarks :)

Yeah you shouldn't be getting an average of low 20s in a 2017 335i! My decade old 4.0 V8 M3 gets 24mpg average on almost exclusively A roads, with occasional "exuberant" driving.

Realistically, on B roads, I'd suggest you'd be looking at around 35mpg. My old 2006 335i with the old N54 engine got 27mpg average, without driving it carefully, on A/B roads. I'd hope that a 2017 335i would be capable of more!

When you work it out, the difference between 35mpg and 27mpg when you're doing 9k miles a year isn't that much at all. Just doing some quick sums:

130p diesel 125p petrol

9000/35 = 257 gallons of fuel over the year
257 x 4.54 = 1167 litres diesel.
1167 x 1.30p = £1517

Same sums as above but for petrol: £1891

So circa £370 a year or £30 a month difference in fuel. It's £30 well spent IMO. The petrol six cylinders are lovely and are better suited for fun, B road driving. Plus they sound much better than the diesel.

Don't forget, this is the kind of car which will cost you £250 for a minor service and £450 for a major service and £650 for a set of tyres.
Thanks for the informative post, service costs isn't too bad, as for the petrol/diesel comparison I've always had petrol, and would rather stick but there around 2k more expensive. I'm looking at spending approx 21/22k at a push but wanting a automatic, 2017 onwards with relatively low miles. I've seen one I really like the look of but it's a diesel.

You would be looking for the 340i if you're looking for a late 2016/early 2017 car onwards.

The 3.0 diesel isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, it's a very nice car also, but, for me, it never has that "zing" that makes a car fun to own and engaging to drive.

I'd personally only be looking at getting a diesel if I was doing well above 15k miles per annum. When I got my 335i the 335d was more, so with my low mileage and the extra cost of the diesel it was an easy choice for me.

@Dis86 won't the higher torque of the diesel be a bonus on B roads?

Yeah course it would be a bonus, that's why all the great b-road blasters have them. The mx-5, the impreza, the Cayman...

Hold on a second! Diesels may have more peak torque but a diesels peak is in a very narrow rev band, outside of that there's nowt. It's why you don't find diesel engines in sports cars.

LOL, I didn't know as the only diesel cars I've driven have been crap hire cars abroad and a 1.7 Astra van many, many years ago in the UK.

the new audi s4 says hi :p

No it doesn't. The diesel powertrain is only available on the s4 in Europe to meet emissions requirements. It's also not a sports car. So it crawls away in to the disgusting, dirty shadows where it belongs.

I know little about audis, but they look disgusting.

You mean the endurance race around the largely oval track? Not the lovely twisty, fast, b-road type? It's also been won faaaaar more times by petrol and something like 99% of cars ever entered were petrol.

Also worth noting they cost about 15million...not 22k.

I'm done with this ******* of an F11. Cuts out once it's started, like the engine can't breath. Absolute ballache of a car. Gonna fix it and get rid :(

*awesome driving

Same as a every other car I have owned... this is the only one to have caused me so much drama.

Also... poor car? It's a diesel estate not some classic sports car. You working for the mail now or something?

I'm not the one that's literally packed in! Defo poor car. Bless its cotton socks.

I think you've just had bad luck tbh. I suspect my driving is pretty similar to yours and I've only had one "bad" car out of the many I've owned. Most cars I've owned have been cars that are traditionally unreliable as well. Nothing wrong with driving a car hard provided you don't go crashing into kerbs and thrashing it from the second you turn on the engine.

It's almost like you bought one of the oldest F11s around and expected it to run like a new one.

I've not had a single major mechanical issue with any of my F10s. My Dad had two F11s too, again when not a single major issue beyond an airbag on the rear of his second one.
