BMW and M Power Owners

It's a thermostat.

If you have a car with a cabin temperature of 25c it won't get colder any quicker if you set it to 16c instead of 19c. Making the temperature really cold on the dial doesn't turn on a magic super extra cold AC setting. it's the same AC system working just as hard to bring the temperature down from 25c - the setting merely tells the system your desired target temperature.

It could be 50c outside, a car that is 19c is cold. Especially as it'll have air out of the vent thats colder than that as the sun load sensor will be ensuring the system compensates for solar gain, too.

In summary, set it to a sensible desired temperature (Which isn't 17c) and never touch it ever again. Your cabin temperature will be right in the middle of winter and the middle of summer (And because it has a solar sensor, the vent temperature in winter won't be the same as it is in summer despite the same cabin temperature).

For those odd occasions when you really want to over-ride the system (ie, the car is 19c but you've just got in from a run or something) then this is what the badly understood over-ride wheel on BMW systems is for.

My old 330D is getting a bit long in the tooth now, I was thinking of upgrading to an X3 or an X5 as i'm an old man now and the 3 series is too low lol anyone done the same? i couldn't drop to a 2 Litre so it's has to be a 3 litre maybe a X3 M40i but it's mainly for comfort i have read they can be quite choppy?

it'll be a new PCP deal so about 50k budget maybe a bit more or maybe try another brand anyone got any input?

My friend who’s a manager of a Mercedes dealership has said Christmas time cars should come back down to reality. It’s so bad on the new car delivery front that they are offering people their cars without some spec fitted with a promise it’ll be retrofitted fully when the parts come in.

For some reason I just don't see it happening and people being fobbed off by dealers.

And some stuff will require almost complete disassembly including dash out, not something dealers will take too happily to doing. Chances are they’ll offer monetary discounts or payments instead of doing the work.

BMW appear to be shipping cars to the UK essentially unfinished, and then they're queued to have the additional parts fitted here in the UK before final delivery. It's mad.

Yep, But whats the alternative. If there is a global shortage of components theirs not much they can do. My new car is from BMW stock and is at the VDC but I wont get it until they have fixed a camera issue that seems to be a stock fault. BMW can't really sell a new car with a know fault. Its infuriating as I want my new car. But its just one of those things.

Was hoping Fox could shed some light unofficially if he could find anything out.

Definitely. And worst case they'll promise jam tomorrow to get you out the door and then unpromise it later on with a token of good will like a years servicing or warranty...

Whats annoying is you can't get the Harmon Kardon Stereo right now so its either the basic or the 3.5k upgraded Bowers and Wilkins...... No offer of a discount on the B&W. Even if they met you half way you'd feel better

Some cars have the uprated stereo as standard, so although it’s not the HK system, it’s not quite the base one either.

No wireless charging either. Although I’ve read that it overheats iPhones and is pap anyway.

I've gone off the idea of an M car now and with a puppy coming later I'm looking at M340i's again. If a tower wasn't spec'd from factory, can they be retrofitted?

Pretty sure they can be retrofitted, as you could spec a tow hook from factory. If not with BMW then with Westfalia or similar.
Might need to modify the rear splitter, etc. so won’t be cheap.

It depends if it has type approval for towing, which a lot of the performance variants do not.
