BMW and M Power Owners

So don't buy one then. You'll regret it in 2 years time when prices are sensible again and you realised you dropped 30 grand on a 2011-model 3 Series hatchback that wasn't even that new when you bought it.

You can get a G20 330i for £30k - yes yes it's 2 cylinders down but the fact it's about 100 times better in every other way and is actually current more than makes up for it IMO.
Truth. F30 interior is horrendous, even more so at £30k!!

G20 is worth it for the interior upgrade alone. The 330i/330e is not a slow car. Granted, it's "only" a 4-cylinder, but spending £30k on an F-model 3 Series that isn't an M3 is depressing.
Unless you can get out before the bubble bursts.

Unless you manage to pull an rg-tom and find the one 440i where the dealer hasn't priced it at a million quid these make less than no sense as a purchase right now. I think the time at which an F generation car that wasn't M Powered was worth spending £30k on has long gone.
What do you think is a reasonable price for a 440i GC then?

I can see a few around the 25k mark on autotrader

You could argue that 440i GCs are no longer for sale at a reasonable price...
What do you want from a car? What is it about the 440iGC that you desire?

I wanted something decent to drive, medium size with 4 doors and that looks nice, and preferably German. I did look at alternative similar Audi's and Mercedes but they seemed to be even more overpriced than the BMWs, which is why I ended up looking at the 4 series GC. Started looking at the 440i specially after seeing recommendations that this is the engine to go for with these - in terms of power I would likely be fine with the 430i but they don't seem a massive amount cheaper

Thats the issue, there aren’t any for a reasonable price right now as the market has gone utterly bonkers. So in the current situation, if you absolutely have to have one then only you can really answer the question - how much are you willing to pay for the car you really want?

We’re soon to be picking up a late 2019 320i with comfort, tech and pro packs on it, 9000 miles on the clock and are paying just under £28k. My wife really wants the car, is plenty powerful enough for her and that’s the budget she had set - so was just a matter of waiting for the right car (for her) to pop up and then pull the trigger on it.

I don't NEED a car right now, I don't currently have one and haven't for years. I've just recently decided it would be nice to have one for convenience again and going on trips.

I'm starting to lean more to waiting for the market to go back to normal, but no idea how long it will take. It's a big risk to buy a car now when the market could drop in a few months and take a massive chunk of the value with it

I’d say it’s more of a risk buying a previous generation car as Fox suggests. Main reason for us changing is the 80k mile Tiguan we are using as a part-ex has gone from being ‘worth’ £12k to £17k in less than 6 months. At this point it seemed like the right time to shop it in. Situation is different for you of course with no current car, so yes if you can hang on for a bit until the semi-conductor shortage has ended and the new car market returns to normal, then I’d imagine the used car market will sort itself out too.

Or it could all be inflation and continue to go up.

Some of the people working at the dealers are so arrogant and condescending its sickening!

Yesterday I took my partners 218i in for a service, major plug service/health check/mot on a 90 min while-u-wait service, when I got the car back (150 mins later - which is fine) as soon as I drive out of Sytner the revs are bouncing, car is jerking all over the place, something clearly not right, undrivable.

I go back in 5 mins after leaving, speak to service person who served me he says I'll drive it round to technicians, he comes back 10 minutes later ''It's fine, no codes, drives fine'' I'm very hesitant but away I go.. I get 10 meters, 2nd gear little bit of revs and cars bouncing like a kangaroo again.

I come back in for a 2nd time the sales rep gives it the ''It's nothing we have done we only changed the plugs and oil/filters, there's no fault codes, its nothing we've done''.. The car is 4 years old and perfect before it went in I mention..

At this point we're virtually at a stand off, He's telling me its fine, the work they've done couldn't have caused the issues I speak of! go and drive it etc it will fine, whereas I know its completely undrivable but he won't come out for a drive around the block with me because they're not allowed 2 people in the car because of insurance apparently.

At this point I tell him to do one and get me the service manager, after repeating myself several times the service manager finally turns up, takes it round the block.. Oh its misfiring.. takes it back to the tech's (again) they put 3 new plugs in it.. sorted!

I've been there over 5 hours at this point and felt I'd pretty much been called a liar by the sales rep, boy did I raise my voice when informing service manager of the ignorant, condescending tone of the service/sales rep.

The service manager said I can have a refund for the service (~£380) to call them this AM to let them know car is working fine and process the refund.
I can appreciate they had a dodgy batch of spark plugs so they say (or they lied and installed the wrong ones? not enough? who knows) but don't appreciate being talked to like some **** by said sales/service staff so I think I will be calling them for the refund.

Yes, a good number of sales guys at car dealers love themselves and have a bad attitude. It's good they'll refund you the £380 though - as they should.

Dealers have a lot of moving parts and are bound to get it wrong occasionally. The sales rep probably shouldn't have been dealing with service enquiries in the first place.

They did a good job of putting it right by refunding, at least!

I had an issue with a service on an M3 a few years back, it had an internet connected dashcam and I got an alert to see a driver moving it around in the car park turned of TC and did a wheelspin. The Dealership Principle asked how he could put it right and we agreed my other half's X3, due a major service would be done for free, it even came back with a full tank of fuel.

I still use the dealership today because of that gesture and I haven't had a problem since.

This will almost certainly be that they haven't plugged something back in, I'd guess they haven't seated the coil pack properly and they just had to push it in a bit further, or they didn't plug it in properly. I'd be shocked and amazed if the spark plugs were faulty.

The initial sort of service is typical of garages. It's only because the problem showed itself before you even left the car park that you were able to get something done. And how did the sales monkey know what had been done before proclaiming it was nothing that they had done. What a knob.

What I don't get is they must have noticed when they pulled it out the garage to park it up:confused:.
