BMW and M Power Owners

My 2017 440i convertible was £24,000 a year ago, current WBAC value is £26,500.

I’m patiently waiting out the prices starting to drop and then I’ll likely shift it on in preparation for buying an i8.

Be interesting to see what happens to i8 prices, my fiancée really wants a convertible one but they're absolutely daft money at the moment! Cheapest AUC one on atm is 2018 with 15k miles and is £78k....

I've been given an M135i as a courtesy car while my M5 is in for some bits. First impressions are that it feels pretty quick all things considered, certainly drives better than some people let on. Sounds better than I thought it would do. It has a few odd quirks though, not sure I like the way the buttons are positioned on the steering wheel and I'm not a fan of the fully-manual seats (presumably these could be optioned away).

How so? Coming from a Tiguan and a Mini Clubman, I find the layout the most logical I've used in years. That and they're actual physical buttons :)

It isn't the layout of the buttons as such, just the flatness of them and the width of the area. On mine, the buttons are much bigger and are curved so it is a bit more ergonomic in that respect. I'm sure you'd get used to it over time but that's my initial reaction :)

Nope, but you’re telling me that it drives better than an equivalently priced Porsche?

Doubt it.

For those reasons and others, many people have declared the i8 to not be as good a sports car as the Porsche 911. And they're right. It's not as good at the traditional sports-car stuff as the 911.

Because it's not a traditional sports car. Instead, it's a car that open-minded people will come to from across the car-owning spectrum, and the genius of it is that the biggest compromise they'll have to make is that it's a bit awkward to get in and out of.

Would I have it over the 911? Whew, tough one, but yes, I think I would - it feels as though BMW has redirected the whole sports-car class. The ball is back in Porsche's court.

I came from a 2017 A4 and don't really noticed any differences with my GC M235i, certainly they are able to make the drivers interface with the idrive vastly superior to VAG's latest touchscreen only offering, which are downright dangerous in my opinion...

I didn't see him say that.

Are you saying that Porsche make a carbon fibre monocoque car for <£100k?

(No, I know you aren't. The point is you're comparing apples with pears).

Not so - I stated >100K is expensive for a vehicle with an engine from a mini and a tiny battery.

He replied stating that I must not have driven one, implying that the primary selling point of them is how good they are to drive.

Hence, my comparison of a Porsche, who are widely regarded as producing some of the best driving vehicles out there (as @Gibbo has recently rediscovered), is, I feel very valid.

Irrespective of whether it has a carbon fibre monocoque, it’s a lot of money for something which doesn’t, on paper, and according to reviews, drive as well as a Porsche, whether we’re talking about a 911, Cayman GTS/4 or Boxster GTS.

Hence, to my eyes, you’re paying a premium for a product with bleeding edge tech, aimed at innovators.

So back to my original point - I think it’s daft.
