BMW and M Power Owners

Does it not make profiles based on the key and phone combo present? That avoids some of the annoyances.

I believe a fair bit of data is loaded to the key when it's used - including the drivers profile, since it's likely the same key could be used with multiple people in the same car using their own phones a key/phone combo may not make sense.

I doubt the data is coded to the key. It'll just be the unique ID or the key triggering a different profile in the car.

Really enjoying my 530D, it really is such a great all round car and just what I need from a daily driver. If I had to change one thing I would swap the sports seats for the comfort seats. I am yet to get myself 100% comfortable and I recall I felt the same about my old F10 530D, which had the sports seats too. It is of course subjective, but I recall now the comfort seats were, as the names implies, comfier and for some reason my seats don't have a lumber adjustment (that I can find). I would like Apple Car Play and wireless charging too if I were being picky, but not something I lose sleep over.

It is such a quiet and relaxing car to drive and the traction of 4WD in our current weather conditions is a significant improvement over my old 530D and E220. Only twice have I managed to unstick the car with traction, once coming out of an island and once a corner and both times I was trying to. So much more sure footed and for me, who is used to proper sports cars, I can not see why you would not chose 4WD on this size/engined car where sporting feel of RWD is somewhat mute.

The other big benefit is how special my GT R feels each time I get back into it. Using that car as a daily driver does soften the impact a touch. I took the GT R out for a blast weekend before last and it put a huge smile on my face. The dynamics, sheer pace and event came into focus when I stepped into after 2-3 weeks of 530D. However, I am at the age where I have to sit in it for 20 seconds trying to remember where the start button is

I agree with you. I know most people think there is nothing as tedious and dull, but I've had mine for coming up to 6 years this year and it's a really difficult car to replace - especially with the market conditions being as they are. For what I paid for it at 12 months old with 5k on the clock I'd struggle to find a 4 year old one now with 50k+ on the clock. I always planned to keep it 5 years, now it'll stay for the foreseeable future. It's just so good at everything I do with it, especially now I've stopped using it for local trips to the shop etc. It is comfortable, it's refined, its smooth and I find the performance absolutely ideal.

You can get Carplay in yours quite easily by the way. I think you can buy it from BMW online for a couple of hundred quid.

Excellent, that I will do then.

I have not bought (or looked at) any of the BMW Connected Drive (or whatever it's called) services. Are there any/worth having?

They've simplified the options down to packages now. The one for your car is, I think, £79 a year and includes Realtime Traffic Information, which I find very useful, as well as map updates which are also useful. You also get the Remote Services so you can unlock the car, check the fuel level etc from your phone.

If you're going to use Carplay all the time and stop using the integrated navigation then the value of any of these packages is much less. Personally, I prefer the way integrated nav works with the instrument cluster etc. You may think differently.

Less useful but also included is BMW Online (Though you can get it to display fuel station prices I think?) and on street parking information which seems like a total waste of time.

The same store you buy this from should also list whether Carplay is available as an official upgrade. I am certain it will be - it is on my Dads 630d and thats a 2018 car.

For some reason the App will not accept my address....

I don't have a house number and no matter how I type it in I am getting an error.

Bloody Germans.

Glad someone said this. I ended up settling on a facelift G30 with M sport seats. Had the car a couple of months now and despite the extra lumbar support I can't get a decent position. Much better in the F10 I had years ago if I recall.

This is something I’ve struggled with in every BMW I’ve driven.

However, I find I’ve got the knack for it now - make sure you tilt the base of the seat backwards so it gives you sufficient under thigh support, and as I have long legs, I like to extend the under thigh part too

I prefer to have my steering wheel quite far out, closer than most, and I sit at an incline which makes me feel upright but not forward

It deffo worth spending some extra time with the seats and adjustments :)

If you already have the wifi antenna in your car, yt's £30 to buy a code on eBay and enable CarPlay yourself btw. Just need a laptop and a cable and it's easy peasy. Much better than paying BMW £250 for exactly the same thing!

was looking at one of these in 2010 for £22k as I was moving my E90 M3 on ....

Unless you'd have bought one with 1500 miles on the clock and then driven it only 100 miles a year I'm not sure you've missed out on a car worth 120k.

Think I'm about the same amount of time into ownership of my 530D Touring as Housey, this is my first foray into anything 'premium' having sampled delights of a Fiat 500 and then a Fiesta for the past 5 years. Of course everything is a huge step up compared to those cars but one thing I've noticed is just how much more relaxed I feel arriving at destinations, I can't really put my finger on as to why.. maybe the quiet cabin or my first experience of a decent automatic gearbox.

I've just got the bog standard SE seats in mine so the adjustments are muuuch more limited compared to sports/comfort but I've found a good comfy position. Really enjoying the space of a touring, 4 month old in the back in an isofix and all the baby paraphernalia in the boot and there's still bags of room. So nice not having to play tetris trying to get things into the car.

Few things I've noticed so far:
  • mpg has been surprisingly good, have done about 700 miles of mostly motorway driving and average just under 46mpg
  • AAIdrive (https://github.com/BimmerGestalt/AAIdrive) really extends the usability of Spotify via idrive, I thought I would miss a full Spotify integration but this fills the gap nicely
  • Learning to trust BMW Nav, I know there's been countless discussions in this thread about the pros/cons of the RTTI and BMW Nav but so far it's held up well and not having to fart about with directions on a phone is great
  • The auto headlights seem somewhat over-zealous and I actually noticed the other day when it was very overcast during the day they were constantly turning on/off repeatedly within a 30 second period, will keep an eye but if it persists will speak with BMW. Other drivers probably thought I was mashing all the buttons as I was driving
All in all, very happy and actually looking forward to some longer planned drives for holidays later this year.

I am seeing 36mpg on mine. I do tend to lead foot it a bit and suspect XDrive means additional consumption but I’ll take that over 15mpg of my Merc.

36 does seem quite low but I guess it does depend on the length of journeys, type of journey and how hard you drive.
Mixture of driving really, need to do more miles to get a firm view. I think Devon and back was closer to 38-39 as I recall and that’s 200 miles of motorway give or take each way.
