BMW and M Power Owners

Have been researching M2's this week, and watching a lot of videos about the M2 vs the M2 Comp.

Drove them both today back to back. Both excellent (as you'd expect).

However, I found the Comp to be significantly better. People say the N55 sounds nicer but the S55 sounded fine to me and felt significantly quicker. The seats are more comfortable and the ride quality is much more settled.

The original M2 felt like a tuned up M140i, and the M2 Comp felt like a more compact M4.

I think I'd probably rather the M4 if given the choice though, they aren't dissimilar money. Shame there are so few M3's due to production ending early, not sure I can justify a big premium over an equivalent M4 (and I don't need the practicality in fairness).

I've had both - currently have the Comp and it is a better car in every single way, other than the sound. The M2 to me didn't feel like it performed anything like as well as the figures would suggest...both of them. I had a manual M2 that I didn't get on with and swapped for a DTC, which I did. One of the problems I had with both M2s was that it sometimes felt it was about to bounce you off of the road, I just didn't find it very confidence inspiring. Sure that could be fixed with some driver skills and better tyres. The comp is a ton better on the P4S than it was on the pilot sport 2 (I think it was those anyway) it came with.

Did look fab in black when clean.

Thanks - I did find some of your old posts about it. My current car is black sapphire and it's great when clean but it doesn't last long. :p I would always prefer a colour where possible...

As fun as manual is, I would want a DCT. It really surprised me how settled the Comp suspension was.

Got a pull from the 5 O in my 530D this evening coming back from the rugby, but close to home. I passed a police 5 series heading in the opposite direction under hard acceleration that would have stood out. I suspect it put out a radio in for other cars to locate and follow me and one did for 7 or 8 miles. I spotted it of course and drove close to the limit for the entire journey but touch over and got pulled.

Lovely police lady came and had a chat, I shared details etc did the normal around why we stopped you and said yup, was totally honest. We talked rugby and where I live and she said take it easy and a safe passage. Sensible approach as I was not doing anything rapid at all, smidge here and there.

Ok thanks

It's nice to be nice.

I got pulled rushing home for the bells at new year.

Did about 50 in a 30 straight line through roundabouts and had a chat, wished me well.

Same as you I just admitted what I'd done and they treat you with respect.

Quite impressed with my x5 45e on my run to work.

A lot of my journey is through villages or hilly country roads so seem to get quite a bit of regen. There is a section in the middle of the route of duel carriageway where the engine kicks but a section in the middle of that dual carriageway is a 50mph speed limit so it drops back to all electric while I cruise through there for 4 miles, then EV all of the rest of the way to work.

21 of the 30 miles each day is done on pure electric. I can currently get to and from work on a full charge. Av mpg is impressive at 64.8 (although I saw it drop to 8mpg when I pulled out onto the dual carriage until I got up to speed!) and so is the 3.4kW per mile on the pure EV.

Not bad for a 2.5 tonne barge! 15,000 miles per year will be done like this. I reckon the savings are between £1000 and £2000 per annum over my old V6 diesel car. They would be even more if I went full EV but I really need them to come out with something with a decent towing weight.

That’s a fair cost. What needed to be repaired/replaced other than the wing, wheel and front bumper?

I assume you got the same garage as before to do the work?

Never been pulled over or stopped for any reason in 15 years, that's not to say I shouldn't have been... I agree there's little point in trying to BS your way out of it as I expect nearly all drivers try to.

Got it back today from being repaired at Sytner, £8.5k it cost Asda's insurance.

Can't be sure if your wheels were turned in slightly when parked or if the impact as nudged it and potentially buckled the wheel and damaged the hub, suspension or steering components.

Seems steep for body and paintwork alone but then again most paint jobs and resprays quotes you read about don't usually require new panels and carbon fibre... I expect your splitter is bonded so one of those OEM won't have been cheap nor would a new wheel.

What's the total range on the battery? Is there no way of doing the whole return commute on EV? Does the engine kick in due to the gradient or something?

Have they done a good job?

Yeah they seem to have, I'll have a better look tomorrow.

Bumper, wing, wheel, carbon splitter , bonnet respray and a long list of bits behind the bumper.

52 mile is the max range, less in winter of course.

its a 60-62 mile round trip so there would always be the need to some engine.

Uphill sections or going past 65mph or brisk acceleration to overtake kicks in the engine. Thats fine though as I need 10 miles each day covered by the engine so it may as well do it on those bits.

What's the most you've got on pure EV before it runs out? 52 max isn't bad. Not sure what the quoted range in the Q7 is, but in reality it's not much more than 33 miles or so from a 17kw battery

47 is my best so far but only had it a week.

the x5 has a 24kw battery so has a decent range. Only the GLE and X5 have decent size batteries as PHEV. Makes a massive difference as I am more likely to use more battery than PHEVs with smaller batteries plus it means both cars fall into the 7% BIK bracket as they do more than 45 miles on pure EV.

I wish more PHEV manufactures went with bigger batteries and went past the 45 mile range. I think if it goes 60 miles on pure EV then the BIK drops further to 4%.
