BMW and M Power Owners

I did have a look on the BMW website as connected drive shows me no packages (as it always seems to have) and on the website it's £900 to include 2 services and 1 MOT (same for any 3 series I imagine), I think that's basically almost the identical cost to paying individually.

It's only worth it if your car is under 3 years old. As BMW charge way more servicing for those cars.

It is worth noting that the monthly plan should in theory cover 4 years of servicing, even if you pay it over 3 years.

I just like the peace of mind of knowing beforehand how much it’s going to cost in case of any nasty surprises. Obviously if something needs replacing that’s not part of the service plan then it’s going to cost more.

You don't have any choice - you can only buy it if your car hasn't yet had a service.

The pay monthly ones are different and never seemed to represent good value when I've looked at them.
Mine was only registered in Feb last year.

It has already had it's first service though (think that's based on build date more than anything), even before the first service I couldn't find any service plans available via connected drive, I've only ever seen the one on their website (which never seemed worth purchasing).

You’ll find it here https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/cp/connected-drive

£895.81 for 5 years servicing.

Is what I can/could always see. I will just pay for each service when required.

I meant the pay monthly ones.

Not all cars had a 5 year inclusive service option. The only option for anything longer than 3 years is the pay monthly option.

The 3 year service inclusive offered on some cars is basically just one minor service.

This may have changed once it moved online though, I'd be surprised if it is available on the 1 and 2 series, haven't heard anyone mention it.

I don’t think there’s much of a risk of you paying more for a monthly service plan than you would for individual services. It’s not so much about the savings but peace of mind and being more affordable by paying monthly.

Of course you can save more by having it serviced at a good independent so you’re not forced into main dealer servicing. The choice is yours.

Random question to you BMW owners…

I got a replacement run flat on Christmas eve after a bad puncture. Ever since then, I’m convinced there’s a slight vibration, almost like a click in the steering wheel when I’m going round a gradual bend or roundabout, it doesn't happen all the time and its barely noticeable but its annoying me. Is this a thing?

Im booking the car in for alignment at the weekend, I’ll mention it then but would like an understanding of what this could be… if anything. Cars just over a year old.

How was the tyre punctured?

Pot hole? Could be a bent alloy
Could be a bent or badly balanced wheel as tamzzy has suggested. Might be an idea to get the replaced wheel and tyre balanced while getting the alignment done.

Thanks guys. It was a pot hole I believe.

Went to take the car out around lunch time on Christmas Eve to find the tyre flat, had to desperately get it into any shop that had the P Zero's as I was travelling on Christmas Day.

I'll get them to do a thorough check of the balancing and alloy.

Anyone running an 840i (or I suppose 840d)?

The Coupe is sleeker but the rear seats are virtually useless, where as the Gran Coupe has loads of room.

It's recently been LCI'd in mid-2022 but that seems to be a glowing kidney grille and slightly larger central screen, and not much else aside from a new wheel option.

The 840i is apparently quite frugal and seems a better choice than the diesel for obvious reasons (not fussed about xDrive).

Careful with these, for some reason the warranty cost is huge - something like £2600 a year for the comprehensive policy despite the fact that there is nothing particularly unique about its mechanical or electrical system that you won't find on a 540i for a still expensive £900 or so a year.

This was enough to put me off what is an otherwise fantastic car.

Doesn't surprise me, BMW's warranty costs are often not sensible on the higher end cars. I'd be looking at a new-ish one so would have a 2+ year warranty remaining, quite a few have the 5 year service plan also.

I had an 840i Cabro, which was brilliant. Comfy, massive spec and plenty quick enough and on long journeys pretty decent on fuel. Its the lightest of the range only being RWD but with the M Sport Pro pack had the M rear diff so was was very usable. The rear seats are usable(ish) if you and the passengers aren't too tall but getting in and out of them is a feet of acrobatics. Boot even on the cabro was good with the roof cover down and very good with the cover up.

I only got rid of it as it wasn't very practical as our other car is a Mini Electric, and the GC was expensive at the time.

I have an M850i Coupe and agree the rear seats are pretty much useless. I'm 6' and have to move my seat forward significantly even when shorter people (~5') are sitting behind me. Also, there are no headrests on the rear seats so it can be quite uncomfortable for passengers especially if you are driving quickly. No point getting the coupe if you want more than 2 people in the car for anything but very short and occasional journeys.

Above said, if I needed more than two seats I don't think I would buy the GC. Just doesn't seem special enough to me to justify the price.
