E89 Z4, I've had intermittent issues with the roof, sometimes it just decides not to work and then does. Suspect it's a sensor issue but any known faults that are easy to clear before I get bent over?
The Salmon relays near the battery are common causes for intermittent roof operation. Folk have lots of success if they change those, its not expensive and simple to do. Are you getting any error messages to give you any clues? The car should log roof fault codes too, so an OBD is likely to pick any up to assist with diagnosis.
I don't have an E89, I have an older E85 LCI Z4 but I've seen plenty folk posting on the Z4 forums with E89 roof issues and the Salmon thing crops up a lot
Absolutely STUNNING!!! Watched a YouTube video from Harry's Garage only the other day where he compares it with the M3 Touring.
I did consider the M340i, I even made lists, since we were looking for a car for the Wife, the choices came down to :Absolutely STUNNING!!! Watched a YouTube video from Harry's Garage only the other day where he compares it with the M3 Touring.
I was pleasantly surprised by the cost of these, they are actually very good value for what you get. I'm thinking in a year or two I'll change my M340i Touring for an M3 Touring, but I may also have a look at the B3 too.
I did consider the M340i, I even made lists, since we were looking for a car for the Wife, the choices came down to :
Mini Cooper JCW Convertible + Alpina B3 Touring
Porsche Spyder GTS + M340i Touring
Porsche Boxster + Alpina B3 Touring
BMW Z4M40i + M340i Touring
BMWZ4 20i + Alpina B3 Touring
Wife had tested the Z4M40i and loved it, then tried the M20i and loved that too, she's less about the performance, and tbh, with either an M340i, B3, or M3 in the family stable, we wouldn't exactly be lacking, but the M20i came in at 11k less than the M40i so a M20i has also been purchased (in Thundernight, she wanted a purple convertable).
My original choice was an M3 Touring until those leadtimes put me off, and also, there's quite a few new ones for sale on AT but at hugely inflated prices, for less than that, you can get the B3 with better (imho) options too.
This one here wasn't in the spec i'd wanted at first, I wanted the anthracite grey wheels and black shadowline with CF interior trim, but actually, piano black did look a bit classier, and those wheels do look nicer in the flesh. I may still swap the grille out for a black one, but will see, it's just a 3-series grille so i can do that at any time.
How are you getting on with your M340i?
Yes! Doing it right. Is that a beige interior I spy? I love the green plus decals plus silver wheels. Epic
Ivory White, thankfully. I didn't want a dark interior this time around, although a pano roof would lift a dark interior very effectively (and this one has the pano roof too), I just wanted a change from the norm.Yes! That is certainly the connoisseurs choice.Ivory White, thankfully. I didn't want a dark interior this time around, although a pano roof would lift a dark interior very effectively (and this one has the pano roof too), I just wanted a change from the norm.
Why are you even asking? Of course you raise that with them.Had a replacement windscreen fitted by Autoglass today on the 5 series... There seems to be a gap between the rain light sensor and the windscreen. From what I can see the auto wipers and headlights are still working, but should I still raise this as an issue? Wasn't like that before and it looks naff.
Thanks. Functionally it seems fine, so wanted a second opinion before getting back in touchWhy are you even asking? Of course you raise that with them.
Honestly getting replacement windscreens is such a faff now with all the gubbins cars have now. It's a shame we have to go through Autoglass, etc. rather than having them fitted at a dealer! Thanks. Functionally it seems fine, so wanted a second opinion before getting back in touch
Indeed. I hate getting stuff like this done, as it's never as good as it originally was. Autoglass did one on my previous Octavia, which started delaminating after a couple of years and the vin was barely visible as the windscreen was badly aligned when installed.Honestly getting replacement windscreens is such a faff now with all the gubbins cars have now.
