BMW and M Power Owners

A large part of me wants to keep it as original as possible :(

Keep it completely original IMO, on older BMW's black grilles just don't work.

I regularly see a very well kept old E63 635d, and I actually like the look of them, but it has a fake black M grille on it which just looks daft!

My M4 Competition had a black grille (factory standard spec) which I thought looked good and suited it, but it's a bit different...

A chrome grille was once a sign you had a larger engine, too. Black was for the weedy engines :p

Sorry wasn’t clear. Looking for a genuine battery. The BMW intelligent battery system needs the right rating and needs to be AGM. Current is a 92Ah beast
Don't need a genuine battery - AGM batteries are nothing special nor is 92Ah particularly high. I use a Bosch 95Ah AGM in my 320d, which came from the battery with a 'Banner' battery.

You need an AGM battery of the same or higher Ah rating, from any supplier. Fit the new battery and use ISTA (or a local mechanic) to reset the battery system, at this point you tell the system whether you're replacing with the same rating (i.e. 92Ah) or greater (where you stipulate what rating it is). You could fit the new battery yourself and drive to the mechanic to reset the system, but I wouldn't drive for days/weeks without resetting it.

I agree with this, I personally prefer the look of the chrome grille, and if it wasn’t for the black trim I wouldn’t even consider it.

Why should the grille match the frame for the wing mirrors any more than it should match the wheels or the paint?

They’re styling accents - just feels like they should match.

Maybe I’ll do the switcheroo and change the black trim on the car to chrome :p

Is a sticky calliper a common issue on a M135/140?

If I'm at a junction and have the brake pedal applied, sometimes if I then go to accelerate (hard), I can hear a scraping noise for a second coming from the left rear and then it goes. Its as if I release the brake pedal and the calliper pistons are not retracting quickly due to stickiness.

Sounds like auto hold to me - brakes remain applied until you hit the accelerator so you don’t roll on a hill/creep down hill.

And all done:
did you need any f20 specific tools for bushing extraction - you did trailing arm bushing too ? ( I had to hand that over to garage ££)

just stocked up on oil - fuchs supersyn 5w-40 - ebay 10% offer @pipercross

the new grill would still have a chrome rim - I think that would remove some of the busy look at the front - or ... you can only go full black ?

My first foray into BMW land. Pick her up tomorrow (hopefully). 2 Series Gran Coupe M235i XDrive in metallic Skyscrapper Grey with Pro Pack.

How come? It's a lovely motor. Test drove one, very nice inside. Good seats. Nice tech. Quick to drive and handles well. And looks nice from outside, actually one of the few BMW I like the look of. Love the gloss black on the outside no matt plastics, like the frame less doors. More than big enough boot space for me. Yeah happy as can be.

I'm sure you'll get the following:

Not a proper BMW due to being a front wheel drive platform
Not a proper engine as not 6 cylinder
It's just a bigger, heavier uglier 1 series

Anyway it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks as long as you like it! (I found the m135i quite fun personally!)

Ahh I see. Thanks haha. It is XDrive this one so it isn't fwd? So can't see that being used as an argument. The engine comment well coming from a V8 I can say the 2l pulled well enough I felt. And yeah I like the looks so that one is down to personal preference I guess lol.

Yep it's xdrive but on a FWD platform, so it sends power to the front as standard and then to the rear when needed
