BMW and M Power Owners

I’m considering a stage 1 retune for my 540. Has anyone had this done to a 540? From what I can see it’s a worthwhile upgrade but I’ve also read that it gives an increase in fuel efficiency which seems a bit unlikely so I’m doubting my info sources!

Yes, a G30. I’ve been quoted £400 for an off dyno retune from Dragon Performance Centre in Perth who specialise in retunes. £600 for on dyno. Impression I’m getting in this particular case is that the dyno is only needed as proof.

do you still have the bmw warranty? whilst the risk is very low, have you considered how you would replace the engine/car should something go wrong in the future, and if bmw voided/denied the claim?

I’m fairly certain I can’t get a warranty on it. I did look into buying one through the BMW website. Computer said no.

It‘s not a slow car by any stretch of the imagination but there’s no harm in a bit of extra oomph just for laughs

Not worth it IMO.

540i is a quick car, and it’ll be short term thrills.

Not worth the risk of anything going bang IMO.

You should be able to get a warranty here:

BMW do restrict the power output of the B58 in the 5 Series, doesn't feel anywhere near as quick as the M340i. Depending on the age of the 540 BMW did offer a warranty approved MPPSK don't know if it's still available however still offered for the 3 Series so expect it is. One thing that jumps out as part of it they replace the torque convertor which would indicate that is likely the weak spot if you were to remap it.

If anyone is in the market for an i5 for work (not personal), there seems to be some decent leasing deals for them around at the moment.

You can get an i5 M60 worth £96,000 for £800+VAT a month based on 10K miles per year, over 2 years

If I didn't need space for the dogs I would jump right on that.

It's still a lot of money over the term - £21,000. But a lot of car as well.

The new i5 M60 is coming in at £844 on my SS scheme - with no initial payment and includes the usual SS stuff.
That's pretty good considering the range (315 miles) and performance on offer (600bhp). A nice choice of interior and exterior colours at no extra cost but, as is usual the case with German cars - you need to add option packs to get a decent spec.
-> £5k adds Tech Plus which you need for adaptive cruise and Comfort pack for heated steering wheel & an electric bootlid, so another £140 a month.

Like you - A saloon is useless for my needs.

It's a beautiful car isn't it.

Not.

Hi there

So had Andy in Crewe known to many as Snappy steering wheel re-trims, an ex Bentley employer (retired) re-trim my M2's steering wheel in alcantera with blue stitching and blue centre marker and not to make the wheel any thicker, having used Andy in the past his work is always exceptional and I am over the moon with the results, he also re-trimmed the Clio Trophy too, but shall grab some pictures of that later:

I absolutely love my 135i. It really is lovely to drive.

But I really feel I need to scratch the V8 itch :D

But I know that the tax + upkeep wouldn’t be worth the cost long term.

Thing is, I’m not seeing much depreciation on E92s so thinking it could be a reasonably cheap year or 6 months of motoring… Must not apply man maths.
