What’s the score with changing wheels and tyres on Xdrive cars? I plan to move from 19” to 20” wheels while also increasing the tyre depth. I keep reading that this could cause transmission issues with an Xdrive car but why should this be the case given that you can change the tyre size in Idrive to correctly calculate speed?

Mine came from the dealer with 20" instead of the normal 19" wheels, same rolling radius and width though (225/35 on the fronts instead of 225/40 and similar change on the read), if going wider would possibly need spacers depending on the offset of the wheels?

From 30 to 35 rear and 35 to 40 front. Same width as current at 275 and 245 respectively.

This will be a considerable increase in the height of the sidewall. You'd need to move to smaller wheels if you wanted to do that? The larger the wheel, the less sidewall you'll have in the tyre, not more.

Actually, are you sure you don't mean you want to change from 20 to 19? Because the standard 19 inch wheel has 40 profile front, not 35 (and 35 at the back, not 30).

No, 19 upto 20. However you’re correct about the tyre sizing - it’s been a long day… Currently have 40 front, 35 rear. I plan to increase profile to 45 front and 40 rear on 20” rims. The sizes will fit the car - I’m not worried about that. What I’m unsure about is if there will be issues with the Xdrive as apparently it can be a bit sensitive to differences in the tyre size.

Went to have a looky at a G05 45e at the other day in our local dealership and it had an interesting feature.

The wheel had the adaptive cruise distance buttons but adaptive cruise should only be part of the "Driving Assistance Pro Pack".

But you had to head into your BMW online account and activate it for your ownership period for the bargain sum of £750.

Even better, a few minutes into the test drive I suddenly realised the HUD was off......... As it wasn't installed. Silly me, but a huge miss for such a car.

Now I'm browsing 50e videos, but the 45e seems like excellent value in comparison!

Was this 2021/2022 car?

Yes, 2021 car.

I'm presuming digital activation was a trial or something new where you could pay for options to be activated. Either a one off or monthly (say heated seat activation).

Not getting involved with that rubbish and will just find an older car with better spec, that just works :D

That explains why it's missing things you were expecting, lots of removals due to COVID production issues.

Head up display was only available on M Performance versions for a while I think.

It wasn't a deletion though.

All the sensors for radar cruise are in place, including the buttons on the wheel (normally blank if not spec'd). But you have to pay on your digital account to activate it, which I'm sure is required if an owner change happens.

Silly silly.

I was talking about the head up display you said was missing.

Why? Surely it's good as when you are buying a used car, you get the opportunity to add features that are missing. It's a rare option anyway, it's always been difficult to find a used BMW with it fitted.

It would be great if I could add it to mine for £750!
