Agreed. The LED grill surround is nice at night I guess, but during the day the grill looks like the back of some cheap chinese tech. Fugly with a capital BLUUURRGH!

Looks grim and unnecessary. The interior "slapping a screen on" has been so poorly completed, too. At least the E class integrates it into the dash (or at least it did on mine).

Assuming the interior quality is good, I could live with the exterior.

I sat in the new 7 Series recently and it's by far the most impressive car I've ever been in - amazing quality and technology. Makes the new Range Rover look pretty basic inside!

Well worth a look at one if you get chance.

so you had a test drive. ? - initially thought sdk was getting his iX

(saw my first new model kona this am with front full width drl narrow light bars, that looked quite elegant&effective)

It wasn't a deletion though.

All the sensors for radar cruise are in place, including the buttons on the wheel (normally blank if not spec'd). But you have to pay on your digital account to activate it, which I'm sure is required if an owner change happens.

Silly silly.

Its a one off cost for life AFAIK. I dont think its a bad idea. You should in theory be able to buy any car second hand and if its not the spec you wanted, just buy the life licence and now have the spec you wanted.

Is there anywhere that tracks exactly what BMW remove from cars, and when?

I nearly got an ix 50 MSport in January, but found out it was one of the cars they stripped the air suspension and rear wheel steering off, which came as standard when the car launched.

Didn't really fancy a 2.5 Tonne SUV on 22" wheels with coil sprung suspension

A good deal came up again for one recently, which would definitely have iDrive 8.5, but it looks like BMW completely removed air suspension from all ix's now, except the ix M60.

Tried contacting BMW UK customer service over a week ago and not had a reply.

I understand about the semi-conductor shortage, but I find it mad you can launch a car for Journalists to review, and then strip out of the key features for everyone else.

Only by looking up the chassis number and seeing what bits are missing. Mine was a post covid car during the shortage and at numerous times during the build I had up to 5 things dropped. Right up to the week before delivery I was still been told the touch screen had been replaced with a none touch screen and I would be getting £500 compensation but when it arrived at the dealer it still had the touch screen. In fact not a single item was missing from its spec. But i know other cars which got delivered 3 weeks earlier had things missing and again a few weeks later. So it wa such a nightmare during that period, you cant even go on dates on what might be missing. So looking up the chassic number is your only way.

To be honest, I've used the electric seats once when I first got the car, to adjust it to suit my preferred seat position. Haven't touched it since :D

Easy if you are the main/only driver. In mine my partner sits totally different to me and obviously she is much smaller. I cant even get behind the steering wheel after she has been in it and if it wasnt for the electric memory seats and steering, it would really annoy me.

BMW finally got back to me actually:

I've looked into your enquiry and can confirm that you are able to request for the Front and Rear Air Suspension (2VR) on the BMW iX 50 M Sport as an optional extra at a price of £2000, however the Integral Active Steering (2VH) has still been restricted and I'm afraid we don't have an update of when it may come back to the BMW iX 50 M Sport as an optional extra.

The real rubbish thing I noticed is that quite often these restrictions only apply to UK cars. If you were speccing a LHD EU car, you could still have it plus more options. Never understood why we are so limited in the UK

I reckon inverting the car interior must be a significant design headache and hardly worth it for some of the items.
