BMW and M Power Owners

Thanks all

When I popped into the BMW dealer yesterday I said my budget was 25k-30k obviously he went with my highest budget!

Can someone kindly link me to a G30 5 series please? Or what you’d recommend I look at, I had a 5 series 3 years back and when I was in the dealership yesterday I got all excited about having a BMW again, just need to keep my power dry so to speak :)

This caught me eye - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202312064607415

It’s a decent example but again, you can get a 5 series for similar money.

But that’s irrelevant if they’re too big, for example.

So my first question is - what’s important to you?:

Do you need the hatchback tailgate? Would an estate interest you? Which options are a must haves?

For me, I’d want:

Heated seats
HK Audio
Sunroof

Anything else is a bonus.

I imagine Fox will have a good idea of which spec/option packs you want, which are hard to find and which model year is the sweet spot.

Hey bud

Had a 5 series and loved it, came on here a few months back and the 440i was mentioned so was looking at that

What I'd like
  • Heated seats (Leather) Not keen on red but that might be as I haven't seen it in the flesh (cream/black)
  • HK Audio
  • Folding mirror (Don't laugh, just always wanted them, and heated)
  • Hatchback tailgate would be a plus as I do need space for holidays, general stuff from time to time
  • Engine size would like a 2.5L or 3.0L as I have always had 2L but wanted a bit more poke
  • Budget around the 25K but if the car is right and I have the funds 30K

I have always purchased direct from main dealers as I think thats where its safer? And normally go down the PCP route (Dealers said they need to do this but I have a garage I have used for years and trust their word and cost more then BMW at times as I was told this can affect the car value?) but maybe a personal loan over X years might be cheaper on the interest %

If you have up to £30k available I'd be looking at either a 5 Series or the current 3 Series. Both are available in a range of engine options for this sort of budget and both are considerably better cars than the previous generation 4 Series, which good as it was, is still basically just a hatchback version of the 2011 3 Series.

If you want something practical but with a good specification you should look at the 6 Series - it's basically a slightly more luxurious 5 Series with a hatchback and a better standard specification (Almost everything you have asked for in that list is standard fit). Not everyone likes how they look but this does mean they can be good value.

I’ll start looking at the 5 series, 3 might be on the small side for me and having had the 5 I’m happy to go back to that!

That has been up since August, and has dropped £3,500 so far. It's pretty well specced, and I think you could go with with quite a brash offer and see if they bite. This is definitely what I'd do.

I recently managed to get £4,000 off a used car so there is definitely room for negotiation.

Will take a look? Do you guys use the chrome price add on to see price history and sale period?

Main dealer will give you approved warranty on the car. Since they're an insurance product, though, and not an extended manufacturer warranty, you'll have to service the car and run it as specified by the manufacturer.

Depending on the brand, this could mean: brand rated tyres; using genuine parts for everything and; servicing at main dealers only.

A good specialist garage will often come with a 3 month warranty. You can then have this put under a BMW warranty.

Not much goes wrong on G series cars though, especially the 30d and 40i lumps. Treat them well with good quality fuel every other fill up and/or the use of fuel system cleaners and you'll likely only pay maintenance costs and normal wear and tear. Oh and don't let them run near empty very often - the high pressure fuel pumps aren't a fan.

Personally, I'd happily buy a car privately if I took along an error checking device and took it for a good test drive. Check all the expensive things such as LED lights (>1K per light if they're not working), anything adaptive etc.

You might even find the odd gem which is being run under warranty.

Throw in with a firm £30k offer and see what happens. If you’re in a position to buy there and then they may bite your hand off just to get a sale as December is usually a terrible month to buy a car. That one looks lovely too, always liked blue with Anthracite wheels. A great combo.

Adaptive headlights are a big option on the pre-LCI G30 for aesthetics, but pretty rare, sadly.

I'd probably include the 30d as well, 540i's are fairly rare. £32-35k could get an LCI 530d Touring xDrive...

Came back to the fold a few weeks ago and we're enjoying having the inbuilt CTEK :p

Bit of a bargain as it appeared on the AUC page overnight without pics and at an aggressive price (£6-10k less that similar ones across the AUC). My other half called the dealer after they opened and the Sales Rep was just starting a walkaround video for another person, so she asked him to take a £1k deposit then to do the video for her instead :D

Although we missed out on a trade priced one a month ago (dealership pricing error and only paid £100 removal off site fee rather than the £1k), this one was way below the expected price for this spec/mileage and it would have sold that day if we hadn't have snagged it.

It's working incredibly well on Octopus Go Intelligent, with the charging set at 6A we had the 7.5p/kWh period given out from 4.45pm yesterday until 11am today. Circa £1.60 for 38miles of electric in winter or it should get 44-48miles in the spring/summer. For longer journeys the adaptive control using Sat Nav and GPS manages the battery assist/regen perfectly.

Main specs:
2020 45e with 30k miles and brand new PZ4 tyres.
Tanzanite Blue with Individual Merino Leather (2 tone).
Frinkin' Laser beams with adaptive high beam.
Comfort access with front comfort seats and heating comfort package.
HUD, HK Stereo, Heat/cool cupholder, piano black internal trim.
Sky Lounge Pano & factory electric towbar.
M-Sport with the usual shadowline stuff & sun protection glass.

No Drive Assist Pro or vented seats but I can live without those.

There is an Approved Used 6 Series on the BMW site for £27.5k with this engine that is newer...

This is a car that was more expensive new than the equivalent 5 Series but is now often cheaper used. I appreciate not everyone will like them but if you are considering a 5 Series Touring you really should consider one of those as well.

Currently started looking for a new car and 99% settled on a 3 series F30 or F31 depending on what I can find in budget if I can stretch to a touring. Looking around 2018 I think but I can’t decide on what engine? I’d be happy with a 320i or D if I’m honest but I also came across a very well priced 335D today with all the options I’d want so that’s also tempting! Is there any engines to avoid? The 320i seems like a good choice with a remap.

What would you all consider as the maximum mileage you’d consider?

Does anyone know which models have CarPlay? Is it all after a certain date?

Have a look at the discussion above :p

Not all cars have CarPlay, even those with the right software etc.

Generally, I think 2016 cars have the IDrive hardware for it, but may need the WiFi coding along with an antenna.

Was a while ago that I had one but I had NBT Evo retrofitted to my 2014 MY.

30d is the sweet spot IMO. You’ll pay a big premium for the 40i in a touring.
