BMW and M Power Owners

I've had my G31 for a few weeks now and it's great!

I'm looking at changing the wheels as it's got the 18" 662m at the minute. My original plan was to get the 19" 664M as I'm not sure if the 20" are going to be too bad. It's like driving on a cloud at the moment with the 18's :D

My problem is I've found a set of mint 20" with almost new tyres and tpms for not much more than new tyres. I'm just worried I'll hate the ride difference after having it with the 18's on. I suppose my question really is 19's or 20?
I'd just keep the 18s if you have any worry over ride. As you have noted it rides beautifully even on run flats. Ride comfort should be one of the most important aspects of a 5 series for me. I prefer the 662m design over the 19" 664 and 20" 759 OEM options too.

Seen a few on owners groups complain around tyre bulges on the 20s, the profile is a bit low. 19s are probably fine, F11 gen also had 19s.

Aye, they're also very good.

It's a pity that one of the requirements of owning a Audi is to grow a knob on your forehead :p
When I drove an audi it was bmw drivers who had that knob, and a very small one as well. :p

What are the best options to look for in the G05 X5? The 45e seems like a pretty decent car. I've seen some with heated and cooled cup holders! Did they get rid of the 7 seat option?

Must have options are sky lounge, Adaptive lights, comfort pack and technology plus pack, Comfort plus pack is nice but not a deal breaker. Don't be put off by 22"wheels they are non runflat and coming from the X3 M40i the ride was a bit soft if anything, I'm running mine slightly over pressure to firm the tyres up a bit.

So I have a 2017 M140i.

Went to leave work yesterday evening and the low coolant warning flashed up on the iDrive. I left the engine running and got out to look down by the front left radiator (well aware of the issue where stones can have straight through access to the radiator located behind the vent). No sign of leakage so I turned off the engine for a minute then turned it back on. No error, so drove home gingerly.

Went to take daughter to school this morning and before I did, I checked the coolant level in both tanks. The small tank was perfect but the large tank was clearly below the min level. As expected, warning flashed up again. I drove daughter to school and made a detour to my nearest BMW garage.

I purchased some coolant but also a replacement cap for the large tank, as I read that earlier models had a cap that over time, would prevent a perfect seal and result in coolant evaporating over time. When checking the level, I could see some residue on the cap underside. Left the garage and no low coolant warning.

I suspect on both occasions when I restarted the car, the coolant had expanded due to the engine being warm, so coolant was above the min marker.

Anyway, got home, let the engine cool down and topped up the coolant in the large tank. Took exactly 500ml to bring it back to the minimum level.

I'll check first thing tomorrow morning to see if the coolant level is still at the level I left it. If it is, then that would indicate to me no radiator leak. I need to go to the office tomorrow so will check again before I leave the office in the evening to see what the level is. If its dropped below minimum, then clearly that coolant has gone somewhere whilst I've driven into work!

Anyone have similar experience? Must admit, in all years of motoring, I've never had an issue like this. My experience is that its a closed loop, set and forget type system.

Battery means no 7 seats. See my post on page 1013 listing our new 45e.

Options wise you really want:

- Comfort seats and HUD are a must.
- Heated seats with the heated wheel and armrests.
- Laser lights with adaptive high beam assist.
- 21" wheels.
- HK stereo
- Driving Assist pro if you can find it.
- Watch out for 2021 Covid cars with deleted options (HK, touchscreen, wireless charging).

Then get yourself on Octopus Go Intelligent. With the slow charging speed (or dropping it further on 3 pin) you can get some amazing extra cheap power. The other day I got 7.5p/kWh between 16.30 and 11:00 the next day :D

This one is very nice and almost identical to our one(but without towbar). But it has the 22s (21s are better), vented seats with massage, leather dashboard and soft close doors. Still a bit punchy on price, I'd want it for £45k.
I think laser lights are pointless as an option. they are barely on and the adaptive led lights are so good anyway, I would save the money on the laser lights

21" wheels look better but make the ride much harsher IMO

Would agree with the rest of your option choices plus extended leather is nice if you can find it.

Same has happened to me with my M240i, the main coolant tank took 500ml to bring it up. I’ve replaced the cap as well and will continue to monitor it.

The low warning didn’t come on though, I was just checking the levels.

That might be true on some BMW cars, but the g05 adaptive LEDs don't have matrix/beam splitting, just on/off for high beam. My g30 adaptives do everything and are absolutely amazing, but if getting an x5 you absolutely need to get laserlights because they crippled the "adaptive" LEDs

I had a 2021 X5 45e with the standard lights and they were adaptive…

They were pretty much as good as the full adaptive laser lights on my 8 Series.

Which is not the same thing, this just means they turn when you corner.

No, they had the full beam splitting.

Edit ::

I was surprised by it too. This was the light - it's very much the standard looking one with the smaller DRL.

This is the option it had (from a VIN decoder).

I think you are right. BMW headlight options are very confusing and very inconsistent between cars.

3 Series:

2 options.

Adaptive LED Headlights - standard fit. Only with basic on or off high beam assistant.
Visibility Pack - Includes laser lights and the better high beam assistant as well as the better daytime running lights.

5 Series:

3 options

Standard LED headlights
Visibility Pack - adds better daytime running lights, the better high beam assistant and adaptive LED
Laser Lights - further cost option on top of visibility pack.

X5:

3 options

Standard LED headlights
Visibility Pack - adds adaptive LED and the better high beam assistant
Laser Lights - further cost option on top of visibility pack, also adds the better daytime running lights.

Yeah, but laserz. They look ace with the little internal blue part, especially when lit up at night :D

Individual Merino Leather is lovely, much nicer than the standard vernasca.

Sort of. The same sort of system is available, but I think it uses a different technology to achieve it. It is included with the Visibility Package.

Yes it is included as standard on the X5, no visibility pack needed. The beam blanks out cars (more than one) and follows them so you are on full beam all of the time. They also turn in corners. The LEDs are more than bright enough so no need to go for lasers which I think only come on at a certain speed anyway.

That's just beam splitting rather than full matrix right?

The Matrix lights on JLR cars have and option to choose between the Auto High beam and the proper Matrix mode, ADB, Adaptive Driving Beam. So does offer the chance of confusion with the term.

My wifes Mini with adaptive headlamps just turns the lights with the steering angle.
