BMW and M Power Owners

Tried the new 5 Series for the day, specifically an i5 40 M Sport Pro. Somewhere in the region of £80,000 with a few minor options. Not xDrive, surprisingly.

Overall it's very impressive as you'd expect, the interior is lovely, let down by a few small things such as the window switches feeling very cheap and out of place - but they do the job.

The Hans Zimmer sounds playing through the speakers are very cool but can probably get a bit repetitive. New iDrive seems unnecessarily complicated compared to the previous version I'm used to, iDrive 7. An awful lot of stuff you'll never use.

Range seemed ok, looks like it'll realistically do around 280-320 miles at least, which isn't terrible. Unless you want an EV, the 550e is probably better.

Despite being quite well specced, it had half-electric seats, which is a bit silly on a car of this value. No driving assistant stuff either.

White isn't really the best colour for it... not when you can get Tanzanite Blue for a grand. I don't think the car as a whole photographs very well, it looks better in real life, honest...

I do understand that, I'm not really sure where they are going with the exterior styling in particular. It just looks like a blob... the Mercedes EQE is a similar sort of thing. I think my G30 LCI looks quite timeless in comparison!

Can you imagine how dated cars will look in a few years time with all these big displays rocking what will quickly become antique software? I'd rather not have them personally.

4 Series in tomorrow for the replacement airbag recall. They had a very nice purple 840i out front as soon as you turn into the dealer too. A tad too rich for my blood though!

So nice of them to put the car up on the ramp and go over it from bumper to bumper looking for anything they could try and talk me into replacing when it was just in for the airbag recall. Jokes on them though, they only managed to find a cracked exhaust bracket and wanted nearly £130 to replace. Everything else green which is great.

This is the standard vehicle health check which they do for every car that goes into the workshop. What's the problem?

They've had a look over your car, free of charge, and told you that everything is great. Yet you are annoyed with them for doing this?

Quite the opposite, but it was never mentioned, advised, requested or told it would happen.

Just the same as those older cars with early iDrive then ! :)
The majority of new model differences are tech related now, and as this sector develops at a quick pace, older cars will always look and feel dated.

You quickly get used to the new iDrive software, you can setup shortcuts to the most used functions and the rest it set and forget.

Yeah, I don’t doubt that, tricky to really get used to it in a short space of time… it looks smart. I generally like having the latest tech and software where possible.
