BMW and M Power Owners

Finally got the bloody songs on the idrive. Had to make afew folders on the USB stick with 500 songs in each folder and then just import. All showed up...

For some reason Messages does not show up in Connected drive for some reason...brill

Got to love my wife's description my M440i compared to the old 430D
Talking to her sister this evening on the phone, "it's all touch screen & a bit noisier!" :)

I spent hours ripping mp3s for my dad with folders, track info, etc. onto USB for his G20, only for iDrive to sort everything by artist anyway

Had a 2023 330e tourer as a courtesy car for a couple of days, love the later version of the Idrive on the FL G20, got back into my 2020 saloon and it instantly felt old :p Felt great having the space of an Estate aswell.

Had a good mooch around the current EV offerings from BMW, the smaller IX range were surprisingly quite nice to drive and felt quite big, the I4 is a great car but quite small for my family duties. Ive got a test drive setup for the I5, it looked akward in the aticles id read, but in real life its quite a smart looking car.
I had one as a courtesy car a few months back, I think the huge loss of boot space due to the battery makes the proposition of a 'big boot estate' not such a reality. Admittedly we have a 5 series touring so the boot is vast but I couldn't event get a collapsed pram in the back without removing the load cover in the 330e!

The 3 Touring is hardly the biggest load lugger anyway, so the batteries in the boot really to steal valuable space. Same in the G30 Touring. Thankfully, BMW have addressed this issue in the G60 and there's even space for the charging cables under the boot floor. However, they've made that more of a shooting brake, so boot space could be much better..

I find using the controller much better than the touch screen - never use the touch screen, which also stops it getting covered in fingerprints :D

Ive got the saloon, so the Touring is cavernous in comparison lol.

As expected, I’m not having much luck finding a pre-LCI M340i touring with tech/comfort/visibility packs, let alone without the shadowline pack.

I’ve decided that I’m willing to compromise on the visibility pack, as I’m not massively fussed about the laser lights, but would really miss the high beam assistant that I have on my F11. After some research it looks like all M340is do indeed have high beam assist but it’s a £160 ConnectedDrive ‘unlock’, which I’d be happy to pay. Does anyone have any experience of ‘unlocking’ features?

Also, are there any significant differences between the MHT and non-MHT models in practice? It seems like pickup and start stop are maybe a little better on the MHT but that’s about it.

There is a significant difference between the high beam assist you get with cars with the visibility pack and the high beam assist you can add later through the Connected Drive store. The version you can add later is simply on or off for high beam automatically. The version you get with the Visibility Package is the full adaptive high beam. It is for this and not the laser lights that I didn't want a car without visibility pack.

What year is your 5 Series? If its before 2013 then the high beam assistant you have is the same as the one you can get on the Connected Drive store, but if your car is a 2013 or later then you'll notice a downgrade in the functionality you get from the high beam assistant as 2013-2016 5 Series had the proper adaptive high beam.

The mild hybrid system on the M340i switches the engine off completely when the car is coasting as well as makes the start stop system far smoother. I've never driven an M340i without the system fitted, but mine has it and I think its excellent.

I don't have the MHT in mine (it just missed out) and it's not an issue. Mine's 4 years old in September so need to start thinking about options...

I've used this before, it works just like a software update. You pay, get a message in the car, it downloads the update, all very simple.

Incredibly annoying though that you have to pay for it! The button is already there...

If you had a service where they replaced the brake fluid, and the warning message is still saying I need a brake fluid service........presumably they didn't reset the warning?

(BMW dealer this is)

Really can't be bothered with the hassle of bringing the car back in to clear a code :(

But previously, as on my 5 Series, if the original owner didn't select an option it simply wasn't available, so I could never have added the high beam assistant even though I wanted to. At least this way you get the choice if you didn't buy the car new.

I see it as nothing but a benefit for used car buyers. They only did it for functions that would never have been standard anyway.

I agree in that respect, I'd rather have the choice than just not have it at all. It does seem a bit tight though.

Depending on the model but you can reset the notification on the dash by turning the ignition on & holding down the trip counter (in my f32).
Did something similar in the G22 but I can't remember what I held down now (maybe something on the stork). Just look on YouTube

Thanks a lot for the responses.

Fox, my F11 is a 61 plate so it is just the standard ‘dip the beams’ HBA. I agree that the full adaptive option would be much better but it’s just so difficult to find a touring with the options I’m after. There’s one on AT for £40.5k at the moment but unfortunately it has red leather which I’m not a fan of at all (and, of course, has the shadowline pack!). Oh, and it’s non-MHT.

I just go into view all tracks and select random in the options menu to play everything on the drive randomly. Not checked anything else. Not sure if G20 is different from F13.

I have one without the MHT and the stop/start is better than previous gen but still quite noticeable to me so I just turn it off every time I start up. I also have the vis pack and whilst the lights are excellent for me I still get flashed occasionally with HBA on so I'm not sure its perfect for oncoming traffic!

I put around 1300 mp3 songs on the root of a 64GB NTFS USB drive, plugged it in the car and it only picks up 500 songs. Looking in the manual, the car can remember 4 USB sticks. I will reformat another 32GB drive FAT32 and try it.
Maybe I'm a dinosaur, but I love using the CD player in our car, especially for long drives. I'm also very happy with the radio!
I miss the cassette player in my old volvo.
