BMW and M Power Owners

Thanks, something to be wary about then. I presumed they fitted all the same trackers as an option, obviously not or they gave you a choice of which one you wanted.
No I bought the car at six months old so it was already fitted. If I had the choice I wouldn't want the fob one though as it takes the ability away from using the phone on its own. I wouldn't even have the tracker if I had a choice but it's needed to reduce the insurance cost. My last car was stolen and recovered because the car in front of it at the chop shop had a tracker. I sold that car as soon as it was repaired as I didn't want it after that.

Anyone running a Trackstar tracker in their BMW (a fit option if I’m not mistaken) have any experiences to share? I’m in the process of taking up ownership of the account and have read people complain of repeated false alarms etc. Wondered if it’s more hassle than it’s worth, it isn’t a stipulation of my insurance so the need isn’t there although I would prefer the extra security
Yes, my M3 has it. I've never had any issues with it with false alarms and what not. However the iOS app is utterly terrible and hasn't been updated for ages. It works fine, however when you want to watch a journey back it does it step by step and there's no way to fast forward or go back. I doubt I'll be renewing the subscription if I'm honest unless it has a big difference on the insurance.

Thanks guys for the feedback, much appreciated. I think I will give the tracker a go

So after seeing some of the F90s in show us yer motors and given the value I've started to take an interest in one 2nd hand. Other than the obvious hike in run/warranty costs is there anything else I should be on the look out for? They seem to be pretty well optioned as standard so I couldn't really see any must have options/packs? I'm indifferent as to whether its pre or post facelift but if there's a compelling reason for either that would also be good to know. I would only go for one with Idrive 7 though (looks like about Sep 2019 onwards).

Main problem I can see is they are so bloomin long its going to hang off my drive onto the pavement!

They are big, big cars, but they are excellent value for money and comically quick. Only some of early cars don't have the PPF and it makes a huge difference to the noise of the V8. I think no PPF/non comp is the holy grail but I'm not 100% if you can get one which also has iDrive 7.

I'm really tempted by one but recent changes at work means I can hire a car now rather than having to use my own so I don't particularly need something more comfortable on longer drives. Still fancy one though, just to tick the V8 M5 box.

You might be better off with the M550i, depends how much you notice the M part on the road and what prices are doing I guess. Straight line and in 90% of situations I bet they'd be just as quick as each other on the road.

I got mine last week on a 21 plate. As you say, they are pretty well equipped but I was looking for one with comfort plus and visibility packs (laser lights). I wasn't overly bothered about the technology pack except I would have liked the B&W as the HK system is pretty poor. Total crap compared to the Burmeister in the E63S before it. Was finding it hard to get a car with all three packs in a colour I wanted for a price I wanted to pay. Yeah its a 5m car so does stick out of parking spaces in car parks etc.

One thing to note is try and get some insurance quotes to see how much it comes to as it might come as a surprise.

After much umming and aahing and a surprisingly tough search for adaptive suspension I've finally moved on from my ancient E92 325i to this M140i. Was considering a proper M car but with the really small mileage I drive I couldn't justify the running costs for one. Really happy with the choice so far, definitely makes me grin like an idiot when the foot is down.

Nice, welcome to the club! Had mine for about 15 months now and still love it when I put my foot down! No urges to map it at all yet, I do really want to upgrade the suspension though as it's very much a weak point

I think the PPF addition came before the update to Idrive 7 and given my wife already complains my G20 is too loud I think I'm fine with the reduction in note/noise. M550i is a good shout actually, will start to include those in my search but I suspect less were sold so could be slim pickings. That said I'm in no rush so can wait for the right one to come along.

Amazing you need a pack to added heated steering wheel here, but I do like warm hands so will add Comfort Plus to the 'nice to have list'. Lasers I have currently on my M340i so would be good to retain that but its not a deal breaker. Insurance wise its a £300 a year uplift vs my current car which is acceptable.

I'll try and get a drive in one as there's one at my local dealer that's up for sale and stick it in the drive to see how ridiculous it looks :D

Early cars have been going for £35k and below on AT, it might be worth finding a car which isn't AUC and slapping a warranty on it, or extending any existing manufacturer/insured warranty. AUC prices don't seem to have 'corrected' from when I've been looking.

Some servicing advice required...

My BMW app is showing in the "notifications" area this:

In the regular services area:

In the idrive, it only says vehicle check and oil as per above, with no mention of rear diff

Dealer advisor says go by idrive only, but some research shows that the rear diff never shows in idrive

Does anyone have any idea if I need to get the diff oil done?
Off the back of this, just dropped the car this morning. Advisor called and confirmed that the diff needs a service, the basic oil microfilter etc is £250 and the total with the rear diff is £340, pretty pleased with that given I was quoted £150 for just the diff alone.

Don't post that on any M2 owners groups on Facebook, they'll be along with their "OMGWTFBBQ why didn't you take it to an independent!?!?!?!??!?!:confused::confused:" comments.

Well I had the tracker activated and as you say, the app is pretty much useless (on Android though). I had the tracker activated on the 9th and it hasnt updated its location since then, so the geofencing is absolutely useless. Phoned customer support and they say its a known issue they are trying to fix but it doesnt prevent them tracking the car blah, blah, blah. Not impressed with it so far with that side of things, no false alarms though.

Sounds like the issues I had when the 3G sim version. The 4G one I have now is bang on all the time. Don't let them fob you off it's not fit for purpose and they can't track your car if you can see it, they tried all that with me.

Is it just a SIM change or needs an updated system? It doesnt stop them tracking the car as thats via GPS as they knew where my car was

edit: Just reread your initial post, so it was the system they replaced. Not sure I can do much about that then as the car is an AUC

Yeah the whole box is replaced only takes a little while. They kept fobbing me off that the server was playing up but it wasn't. As the 3G network is being turned off it would only connect and upload data sporadically when it had service. This means the app was hardly ever up to dated and as you say Geo fence was useless. The new one knows exactly where my car is all the time now. It's not fit for purpose and I was questioning how my insurance would regard this as it doesn't work as advertised. After pinging their Facebook page they replaced it, they knew what was wrong but didn't want to take responsibility.

Potentially saying goodbye to my 430D in the next week or so as I've put down a deposit on an M440i.
The 430D has been a great car & I'll be sad to see it go, but the lure of a newer (2021) 4 series was just too much.

Going to view it in the flesh on Saturday, but from what I've seen so far it's pretty much in A1 condition
