BMW and M Power Owners

They wouldn't cover it even though it has two massive splits because it's a wear and tear item and has to be "frayed" before it is deemed worn enough to repair. What a load of ********.
Nonsense. Ask them what the replacement schedule is if it's a wear and tear item? I'd speak to BMW warranty and ask them.

From their own website: This is our highest level of protection, and the policy covers the majority of your BMW’s components. In addition, it covers wear and tear for covered components for the first 100,000 miles from registration.

Unless BMW can prove the damage was caused by what they call 'third party interference' then it should be covered under the warranty. It is very comprehensive.

I had the prop shaft rubber replaced on a All4 Mini under the extended warranty as it was split. Also had two tops mounts that were splitting replaced without any issues under the extended warranty. Both these were picked up on the health check and the warranty company approved it on the back of the dealer saying they needed replaced.

Comes down to the dealer how they deal with these, have they put a claim in ? A lot of dealer's don't fully understand the cover and say it's not covered without putting a claim in.

I'd phone the warranty company and ask them if it should be covered. I've not had issues but from other forums what happens if it's covered they'll phone the dealer and ask them to put a claim in.

They said they had contacted the warranty provider and been advised that they would cover it once it was frayed but not for splits. The splits look massive to me.

They are not disputing it's covered, they are disputing how worn it has to be before it's deemed worn enough to replace.

Take it to a different BMW dealer and see what they say.
Dealer claims this is the warranty company's response. I think I am going to make a complaint at this dealer and/or the warranty company first.

Thinking about the response is ridiculous. Rubber doesn't "fray".

That does look pretty bad not far off being right through. Hard to say compared to my warranty claim as I never watched the video showing the damage just took their word it needed replaced.

You need to go to the warranty company as it's them who have rejected the claim, ask them to outline why it isn't worn enough to replace and also tell you how bad it needs to be to get replaced.

I assume the dealer recommend it needs replaced on the back of a health check ? If so also ask them to explain why they are rejecting a claim on work a dealer has advised needs carried out.

Or alternatively I recon a few brake boasted launches (assuming your's an auto) will get that torn right through in no time.

Maybe try and find a second hand one and get someone to fit it, not sure if it would need coding - assume it's the adaptive light from your 530d?

Just beed told my oil leak is a turbo gasket, been quoted £505 for a refurbished turbo. £1200ish supplied and fitted. Luckily the car is off the road for a month or so as I'm having ankle surgery next week. What a nightmare cars are!

I have it booked in another garage next week for a second opinion so we'll see what they say.
