Hit a pheasant coming home last night, took out front nearside headlight.......

£2100 to replace and fit.
Pheasants are deadly, I once hit one and it went straight through the front grill of the car and its beak punctured the radiator :(

It was a pigeon that got my headlight.

Headlights are expensive. It's nearly £3k for a pair of used Adaptive LEDs complete with modules for my F80, then they need fitting and coding. From a dealer it's around £4k for just the lights then another £1500 or so for the modules (from memory).

It was a £1200 option when new. :(

They are really sought after, so prices are strong and they sell very quickly.

Rejoining, after stupidly trading in my 428i 4 1/2 years ago for a Focus ST..
Don't ask, I have no idea what possessed me to do that!!

Hopefully pick it up on Sunday.

Had a client hit one in his brand new 911 turbo on its first outing coming to meet with me. Took out the front bumper, a light, cooler and a load of pipework. Also bent the bonnet.

I would have said he was talking rubbish except he turned up with it still implanted in the car!

Not just yellow paint - higher quality oem solvent based , pre-greta

donut change - £900 LOL - had had mot warning on significantly deteriorated coupling - was about £40/febi part and <£100 to fit, kept old bolts

How did you find the 428i engine when you had it? Colleague is hunting for F32 420i or 420d and recommended hunting for the rarer 428i.
Enjoy the newer mode. That colour is lovely.

my last car was a 428i coupe
traded that in for a 440i gran coupe
best decision ever :p

setting the above aside, i came from a 320i to the 428i, the extra 80hp or so is definitely noticeable compared to the x20i
i had the adaptive xenons and adaptive suspension with the 428i as well

The problem you'll find it is that it's very difficult to find one - they are from a time when virtually every car of this type was ordered with a diesel engine, not a petrol engine. The few that were petrol were either the cheapest in the range for low mileage use or the most powerful meaning not many people ordered the middle of the range petrol engine (even though it was good!).

yeah that's definitely true

also (back in the day when i was car hunting for the 428i) most were base spec luxury trim with no options.
even for the msport trim, it would be rare to find it with a combination of decent gadgets - if i recall correctly i was looking for about 2 months... and in the end skipped on the HK stereo to get the adaptive xenons and suspension

The 440i gran coupe is a great motor. Seen a few parked near me at work and always think about getting in one but for some reason never investigate any further. Should try and test drive one and see how it compares to the m140i and 3 series.

What have you loved about the 440i GC apart from the engine? What real world MPG you seeing?

Very true. Finding that with lots of cars. All that era is mainly mile munching diesels.

Besides the B58, the next best thing about the 440i GC is the hatchback TBH. It really makes the car super practical.
I spent a while to get it in the spec I wanted (well nearly...is missing the full digital dash and heated steering, but I'll live without that lol)

I have a 428i Gran Coupe and like it very much. Calm and serene but with a turn of pace when required. It’s a good middle ground the hatch is very useful and I’ve even have five adults in it for a 20 minute journey without too many complaints and had 4 to western Ireland with no complaints either. Overall I get around 29MPG with a mixture of driving. I started a thread, search for I’ve gone Bavarian and I’ve kept it up to date.

As Fox has said they’re rare though, when I was looking for an M Sport there were three nationwide under my budget and many of them are very light on options. No HK audio, no adaptive lights or suspension, no M Sport brakes is very common.

I'll chime in too, I love my 440i GC because of the hatchback and the engine.
I also am missing the heated wheel, however I installed a Alcantara cover so its not really cold to the touch.
I do plan on getting the Full Digital dash installed soon though, It's about a grand for one that works with the HUD (HUD IS A MUST BTW)

I don't see how anything it does is worth that - it was the first fully digital version BMW ever offered and consequently it doesn't really do much the standard partially digital one doesn't do. It was quite late to the 4 Series range, but it's the display that was originally offered on the F10 5 Series from 2012.

Really wouldn't bother. As Fox says it doesn't offer much in the way of added functionality. I think you'd have money better spent elsewhere.

E.g. if you've got HK, you could get a better amplifier and have phase correction and time alignment done.
