BMW and M Power Owners

Anyone with a crystal ball have any idea what it could be, before I inevitably spend loads of bloody money sorting it?
Sounds fluke induced - leave it a bit and try again

Unless it really was a mega pot hole in which case I'd start with wheel sensors etc.

Get yourself a proper OBD reader tho?

I have got one but I’ve lent it to my dad. Will pop round and grab it

Got a feeling it might be an active grill but we’ll see

Okay so dumb and annoying situation. G20 320d.

Bought a car yesterday (private sale). Checked it over in detail, all is good. Didn't have an inspection, but inspected myself with code reader, all good.

Drove home 2 hours, no issues.

Took out for a drive today, no issues. Hit a pot hole, engine light comes on. Thanks run flat tyres

Could be an issue with the automatic gearbox?

All M2’s are all the same price, the difference being if it’s a renewal or a new policy.
Thanks! Handy to know.

I spoke to BMW directly and they confirmed exactly what you just said above - £845 Comp, £709 Named and £551 Driveline, all with £250 excess and no roadside assistance. It's not as expensive as I was expecting in all honesty.

Did a bit more research and put together the following (might be useful for anyone else in the same position):

I'm fine with those running costs. Insurance, will be able to find cheaper if I speak to Adrian Flux/Chris Knott etc. Warranty, understandable uplift, but might be able to buy additional years from BMW at point of sale for reduced cost (asked for more detail on this). Minor service, same cost. Major, double the cost from BMW but can half that going to a reputable specialist (used Darren Wood before). Tyres, yes, expensive but I only do 5-7k a year so a new set will last 3 years minimum (will also try to push BMW into fitting a new set to the car if questionable tread left on current set). Discs, a set should last 20-30k miles, so no concerns there (ideally find a car at around 30k miles with them already done).

Pretty sure I've covered everything apart from fuel (worse MPG so will obviously cost more in general).

If you get an AUC car, and you get lucky, and negotiate hard, and get a decent dealer, and do 5 backflips before you walk in the dealership, it's not unheard of that people have been able to negotiate two years AUC. I tried with my F80, but failed. I've had it 3 years in August and no issues and I'm contemplating not renewing the warranty.

Most BMW dealer groups won't do this now - it used to be a thing many years ago. However, a few do sometimes offer it if they have an 'event' on - Wollaston are doing it at the moment for example: https://www.wollastonbmw.co.uk/about-us/news-events/promotion/used-warranty-offer/

That's interesting. Over here, Premium Selection as it's known is always 2 years, sometimes 4 years as a special offer. However, it's almost impossible to extend it.
However, there's a recent trend of dealers putting the high-performance stuff as a standard 12-month warranty only though, which is nowhere near as comprehensive. Cheeky buggers.

Just for clarity, the salesman didn't say it was free/an offer/thrown in as goodwill, it was paid for, but just at a heavy discount only available at the point of sale. 1 + 3 years for £1200 or thereabouts, and apparently comprehensive.

I've emailed and asked for more detail on this.

That will be a dealership warranty, not a BMW warranty. Usually a big difference. BMW's comprehensive warranty will cover the majority of wear parts, most warranties won't (whatever they may claim).

Hence why I've asked for more info via email. In person I did ask if it was comprehensive cover and the response I got was "yes".

No one buys an M2C on a spready. Get the 135i :D

If you were closer, I would happily connect my laptop with ISTA and do a full scan on all modules, but you're in Sussex and I'm in Herts.

Go on FB, look for a local group, someone might be local to you with laptop and ISTA along with Enet cable.

Has anyone had their M DCT serviced (oil change?). I am aware it's lifetime seal but working in automotive industry I know that this is carp...

Any rough costs what I should expect to pay?
Thanks

Had the code looked at. It was a short term NOx sensor issue - signal invalid for a brief period. Registered roughly when I hit the pothole.

Codes wiped and all good. Hasn’t reappeared.

Runflats will be removed imminently and replaced with non-crap tyres.

Bloody things.

Check Redish in Bristol. £700 to £1200 depending what’s needed. Not sure what car

In the last week I traded a 72 plate Mini JCW in for a 21 plate M135i. It's just ran out of manufacturer warranty and looking around for a used car warranty. The dealer that I bought it from is doing a 2 years for the price of 1 currently but have little information about what this actually covers. I have since then been doing my own research and as I thought, a minefield of caveats.

Fox is still firmly nestled in my head with going for BMW warranty so a quote on that is £399 a year for named component which seems fine. Is this the route to go?
