BMW and M Power Owners

The weather seal exclusion is the problem. BMW do seem to have problems making a water tight car with many common issues that let water in the cabin on most of their range.

They’ve got the exclusion in there so that if your boot fills up with water and takes out 5k+ in modules/amp they can deny the claim .

I got in the habit of checking for leaks/drain blockages after every wash

Are you all saying that the insured warranty is useless? :p

No, far from it. It's one of the best policies like this you can buy. However, like all insurance, there is a list of exclusions. The list is very small on the insured warranty but one of the things it does exclude is weather strips and seals.

It’s not useless, it’s just different to the actual BMW one.

While, as Fox says, it’s clear what the limitations are in the terms and conditions, I will acknowledge I did not read through them in extensive detail in comparison to BMWs standard warranty terms.

Furthermore, I would have expected to be treated as if the warranty was managed and approved by BMW (I.e. like the AUC), since it was purchased through their website and treated as a renewal of the AUC warranty.

I don't really understand your point here, in my experience there is no difference to the customer in how it's handled, the difference is in what is and isn't included. If you made a claim for a part that wasn't covered under the approved used warranty, like for example wheel corrosion, you'd get the same thing?

How it works in the background shouldn't really be visible to the customer and in my experience it isn't.

How was it a renewal of the approved used warranty, you said above when we discussed the choice of excess that it was a new policy (which is why zero excess wasn't offered and why it was more expensive).

I don't want to come across like I think you're unreasonable being annoyed. I'd be annoyed as well, I have the same policy and same headlights are you. I find it annoying they have this exclusion. I'm just trying to explain my opinion on how it works.

For me, the annoyance was that it was sold under the guise of being an extension of the warranty, when in reality it’s not. Yea the paper work explains that in the small print, but during Covid my old Z4 went in for some work and I got told it was a £600 bill despite having the insured warranty, I managed to argue that I was told I didn’t need to come in because of the Covid back log and if I had of done I would have been within the AUC and so Dick Lovett went back to BMW and they agreed to pay it as if it was within the AUC.

That’s possibly my fault for not understanding, but when other brands are offering extensions to their warranties, I thought that was what I was buying. Left a sour taste in my mouth.

I can see your point but not many brands offer an extended warranty that isn't based on this same insured system. A look at the small print of almost any manufacturer warranty will show that it is underwritten by an insurer and not the manufacturer.

There really is very little that is covered under the approved used car warranty but not covered under the insured warranty.

Thinking about it, it’s very much my end that I made the massive assumption it was the same thing, despite picking a level of cover if I remember correctly.

I'd still think that if with rainy weather his light were to become worse effectively an MOT fail (like above latter bmw pictures ) they would then act -
so, is holding off on any cleaning prudent.

Cross posting from the tyres thread

Costco having a promotion on Goodyear tyres
Just booked in my car for 4x AS6 19" (225/40, 255/35)
Total damage was £496 which is the cheapest I've ever seen them

You may have issues getting these fitted if they are not BMW star marked.

Costco can be a bit funny about what they will or won't do when it comes to fitting tyres, like only fitting manufacturer spec tyres, only fitting factory sizes, only fitting new tyres to rear if you're replacing two (staggered setups obviously excepted)

Ah that makes sense now...the guy that booked me in was asking loads of questions about RFTs and all that and something about voiding BMW warranty if non-RFTs fitted.
I told him that my tyres are already non-RFTs so go ahead and change them out. I paid and got booked in, so we shall see...

My local Costco doesn't care, they mentioned it once or twice and asked if I'm aware. I said yes, I know and they just got on with it...
