BMW and M Power Owners

A plug and play Match Up 7BMW :-)

Music currently goes through USB into the head unit, but will be adding CarPlay in the near future.

(+1 year) how are you getting on with this - did you end up tuning time alignment/EQ much.
I don't understand if you can set up a number of profiles and then change with an app

I've found/test driven a couple of f31 320's both my preferred Luddite(control freak) manuals, one with pan roof which is nice, but would be 50mile return trip for any subsequent warranty issues, equipped with hi-fi / basic,
for either I really want to have a matchup type upgrade, to get the same experience I have with current DIN/Alpine.
I think time alignment I currently use has been invaluable although some threads have mixed opinion https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1684511
(Ironically the alternative car I'm considering ID3 has TA ... the overlapping price of 2nd hand ev's is so enticing)

Is there an equivalent amp & DSP option for poverty spec cars with the base system? What's the priority order to get upgrading on a G30 with value for money in mind?
I was thinking to start with HK tweeters, door speakers and underseat subs? What should I power them with?
did you take that any further ... covid does seem to have created quite a few basic sound system models;
with all systems, being able to code them with a flat response seems the ideal to simplify after market de-eq with the likes of Match up.

e: still not convinced on the small opening window on the tourer - just takes away an additional couple of inches around the window reducing visibility for reversing

How is it £1106 for your next two services on a 320d? That's more than the next 2 services on my M340i which is surely more expensive to service.

The £935 is the same price as I was quoted.

These surely have no value - you get a free wash with every visit anyway? I specifically ask them not to wash it :D

That’s just what the website quoted me

Edit: the garage actually as my local ones don’t do fixed price servicing anymore.

I don’t have the car anymore but it’s still the best system I’ve had in a car thanks to the DSP.
what sound system did you have in your g20 ? anything special in the incoming ID7 too;
with a B48 (or ID3)replacing my current n52 I'm going to need something decent to listen to.

In the G20 I’ve got the Harman Kardon system.

When EQd, it has good tonal balance and dynamic range. It also doesn’t have too much dynamic range compression as you increase the volume.

Without EQ, it suffers with exaggerated 150 Hz frequency, and the front tweeters run really hot.

Like with any system with a centre speaker, the stereo imaging is compromised, and you get audible resonance with specific frequencies which can create a ringing effect at higher volumes, as it muddies the sound.

When I’m next in the car I’ll take a picture of the EQ I use to help level out the sound.

The main thing is that I enjoy cranking the volume on my favourite songs - not something I always do.

The benefit of the G20 is that it’s so well insulated and built so well, so the speakers get pretty close to their own performance limits.

The ID7 has the standard system unfortunately, but my understanding is that it’s still a 9 speaker setup (8+ sub)

Both electric. M2 loads up more naturally mid corner, and you can feel the grip limits better.

The Porsche has heavy steering but it never loads up.
Just took mine for a spirited drive for the first time in a while. Very true about the steering - I was surprised at how nice it was :p

Gearchange is a bit ****** I'll give you that. Still, sounds great, goes well and can ferry small people and their luggage about with minimal fuss. Also cheaper than a similarly-aged 718

I honestly don’t find the gear change too bad. Its not the best obviously, but I’ve used much worse

It is at least a manual though. Any manual is better than any auto for engagement IMO

people like artificially created surround sound I guess - I've never see any explanation for the centre speaker, and would consider disconnecting it.
I just want something that sounds like the 2.0 system Linn/audiolab at home.

I was researching for a friend, in the end it ended up on the back burner.
The final recommendation was:
Get some gladen 3 way system (underseat subwoofer, front door mid and tweeter).
Get a focal wiring kit to make it plug and play.
Depending on budget and expectations - either a 4 channel amp or a 4 channel amp with DSP.

The former can be done for not a lot of money and discretely, the later is a bit more involved.

I'm pretty sure you can flash GTS firmware for steering and to liven up the gearbox flash XHP map.

The 440i is off to a garage tomorrow to have the coolant system diagnosed. The garage is a Independent BMW specialist (or so they claim)...

The following day, its off to the garage for its Gearbox filter-pan and oil to be refreshed. car just hit 70k, so well worth doing.

I had my gearbox serviced and fluid changed just about a year ago today. It's much smoother, upshifts are hardly felt at all. Downshifts have always been smooth, but the upshifts are imperceptible now. Glad i did it, and it's good for another 7 years now or 40,000 miles. By which time I'll likely have moved the car on. I see it as a good selling point too.

Anyone here running Michelin PS4S BMW Star Marked tyres on their M340? I just had a set of 4 fitted to replace the Continental Sport Contact 7's I had on previously. The CSC7's were excellent but I was curious to try the PS4S's to see how they were too. Anyway, I was wondering what tyre pressures people were running with the PS4S? Stick with the OEM pressures on the sticker on the car or drop a bit?

Ta :)

Not sure if your car has it but I run mine on the eco/fully laden vehicle pressures

Depends whether you want a firmer ride with better MPG and steering, or a softer ride with slightly worse MPG and slightly worse steering.

I have adaptive dampers so I run mine at higher pressures for the better steering feel. MPG is a bonus

On my Porsche I run my PS4S on higher pressure mode too, as I find the tyres to take out the little feel I had in the steering to begin with.

I'm not modifying it, but I don't think a gearbox map would help with a manual gearbox :)

I recently saw a map for a manual gearbox, it looked like this:

I don't understand if you can set up a number of profiles and then change with an app

I used a UMIK-1 microphone to calibrate the time alignment, that made a huge difference. I tried using it to calibrate the EQ too, but it seemed to drop the 200Hz frequency right down (guess there was resonance or something?) so I tuned it manually, then my local sound guy tweaked it a bit more to finalise it all.

Can't change anything with an app on my version of the amp, had it for about 3 years now though.
