BMW and M Power Owners

I sat in one of these a few weeks ago in a showroom before I got my M4, they're absolutely gigantic.

Honestly, it's just too much - the interior has so much RGB lighting, a lot of tack - it feels a bit out of place, as a 5 series of that price should ooze quality, and to be honest this didn't, it all felt a bit childish.

I was semi-considering one of these until I saw it in the flesh, but I actually preferred the previous gen (F90) and almost bought a recent version, but found it boring compared to a current M3/M4.

I was also really turned off by the hybrid system, the idea of it just didn't seem to work for me - it's also going to make the thing depreciate way more.

I can see what BMW have tried to do with the new M5, but for me it just hasn't worked - it's a bloated overweight, overpriced monster.

It's like Muhammad Ali according to Matt, blistering performance, but lacks personality :D

That cheap interior is inexcusable. £130k lol.

Why spend the extra on the interior when it’s a throw away product anyway.

Hybrid battery systems get hammered, and if it’s like other hybrids with the ZF8, no battery = no car.

I was having a chat with my other half this morning about it. Hybrids do seem like a throwaway product designed for leasing.

We’ve seen BEVs last a good amount of time/mileage, and while Toyotas seem to last pretty well, there’s so much risk with a hybrid for a second hand buyer.

BEVs have strong selling points but I wouldn’t personally touch a used M5 with the hybrid system. Could you imagine the cost of anything going wrong on it if it isn’t in warranty?

Does even the mild hybrid on 6 cylinders need the battery too - I specifically avoided that tech on my upgrade from bmw NA manual.

yes - I'd thought those mhev motors were even replacing the torque convertor and providing fill in during gear changes , maybe just a cut down motor/version of what is used in the phev

The Dealer I bought the M5C from emailed me saying they have one in if i want to "borrow" it.. Unfortunately they are Glasgow and I'm Liverpool. I'm not taken on this to be honest. The M5C is such a good allrounder. We load it up for a 5 weeks Euro trip every year (kitchen sink type load it up) Its a great Daily. Its a motorway Cruiser and its a hell of a blast across the Pyrenees.
However. Theres no sense of occasion with it.. It pulls like a **** but you don't get the Lambo/Ferrari/McLaren feeling.
My M5C is now 3 years old and i'm not really in any rush to get rid. Not had a car this length of time for quite some time

BMWs MHEV use 48v electrics for the motor and battery. There will be no commonality between its systems and those of a full PHEV. The battery itself is only around 20Ah so smaller than most starter batteries.

Will seriously consider the Touring in a few years once they've come down to semi-sensible prices. Purely for tax reasons as it's a hybrid though. Shame, but BMW clearly know their market.
The new all-electric M3 should be interesting...

I think the saloon is pretty ugly but think the touring actually looks pretty good, not for me though. Much prefer my F90 inside and out

Anyone know the going labour rate at the dealers?
Service parts come to £225 (Gen BMW parts oil, filters, brake fluid) but BMW app shows £551 including the scam service/scope charge...wondering what they will charge if I supply all my own parts

if they are all 100% zf, they're integrated into the transmission/gearbox , so a lot of phev commonality, and I suspect if like the Audis (I side-stepped) if the 48v battery dies the car is bricked.
(as most mhv's would be)

The starter / generator on a BMW MHEV isn't part of the gearbox, it's external to both that and the engine and sits where the standard alternator would be located.

I educated this on you last time. They don’t talk fill as they supplement the engine so if the clutch opens there’s no reactive effort from either system. Not only do you write utter garbage but you also don’t read anything people actually post, always favouring YouTube like links.

Amazing. Does a hybrid system have a battery? Couldn’t make this up.
