BMW and M Power Owners

My understanding is that a manual has less parasitic loss on the drivetrain, but in 6th at 70 I’m at 2.5k revs.

Auto changes gear to be in lowest possible revs all the time

I’ll have to check what my MPG was on the way to Wales.
Pretty sure the more modern BMWs are more efficient with an auto/DCT 'box as they have 7 or 8 gears compared to the manual's 6..

That’s what I’m saying - technically less parasitic loss but you get more gears in an auto, so at the same speed you’re typically in a lower gear (I.e. 6th manual, 8th auto)

Managed 39.3 in my 340i on the way to Wales

sounds good, how much of the route was motorways versus A roads (A5) and the like .. my speculation was that a human and manual gearbox would do a more economic job on the latter,
and am learning how the change up/down dash indication corresponds to my usual style.

[different engines on 3 series 328 vs 340 obviously have different optimal peak efficiency curves.
I had though this was an interesting read on a vag engine where folks have a power map,
visualizing how you make the same power with different rpm and fuel consumption

Had to put new discs and pads on the front of my 530D after a trip to Devon when one of my pads started rubbing and bonding to the disk. Made a right mess so managed to find a local chap to put new disks and pads on the front. 1 pad to metal due to pad pins seizing somehow and holding it on the disk. All other pads were fine but disk was a mess so swapped the lot.

Only became apparent around Gloucestershire on the way down.

Interesting points, concurring with the other reviews I've read & heard. You really cannot get over the fiscal advantages of the hybrid, even with the stonking V8..
I wonder why the yellow one can't be used on track, but the green one above can. Is that not a BMW GB car as well?

Also nice to see BMW bringing back some proper colour choices too. Epic

I've started to get vibration through the brake pedal (not through the steering) in my B3 Touring. I suspect it's a warped disc, but the conundrum is that the brake vibration occurs when slowing from 70 > 50, under that speed, there's no vibration at all. I'm disappointed, the car's 18months old, it's been driven normally, haven't had to do any hard stops (and subsequently no holding on the brakes after).

It's more likely to be pad deposits on the surface of the discs.

What an absolute monstrosity. There's not even one thing I like about the new M5.

Get the wheel balance checked too. Worn bushes can be an issue but I doubt on something that new

Run your finger down the inner face of the discs and see if they are smooth, corrosion can build up pretty quickly on the inner faces espically on the outer edges of the larger discs. If you catch it early high speed to 20mph repeat a few times should help clear them up.

Nowhere near the same car but my wife's 1 series has recently developed this problem. Its a barely used car and sat stationary after the last wash. I'm convinced its something on the pads or disc as never gets used heavily enough to warp a disc!

I had it and drove on and it cleared but it did take some time.
