BMW and M Power Owners

The extended warranty does have an exclusion for not covering corrosion, as you say you need to find out first if the dealer has submitted a claim as it's the warranty company that make the decision not the dealer.

What model is it ? the older F series cars do have an issue with corroded drive shafts being hard to remove with a high chance of damaging the splines.

If I buy a used approved car, will they for instance allow me to put anti corrosion, lanoguard for instance on the underneath or will it void the Warrenty?

Cant say im a fan of cream interior, also not a post facelift,

there is a few xdrives and a few petrols popping up, although i really dont want/need an xdrive 4wd, and although petrol would be cleaner, they dont have as good torque as diesels

There is a white 420D m Sport 2020 model which looks alright , although its manual :(

These are the cheapest 2017 4 series on AT with reasonable mileage which are AUC.

If they’re out of budget, then, as others have said, you have 2 choices:

Don’t get one or;
Up your budget

You’re going round in circles at the moment.

Don’t forget, just because it’s up for X amount, you don’t have to pay that. Make offers.

Have you actually driven one?

Being Turbo petrols they have plenty of torque 270 or 290Nm for the 420i depending on year.

If you genuinely wanted torque, then you'd surely be considering a 430d at 560Nm, but you've already ruled that out, because you don't need a powerful engine?

Definitely important to drive one.

I don’t like the torque of the petrol with the ZF8 but that’s just my preference.

My mate is buying a 320i and is dead happy with it. Didn’t really find the 320d much different, coming from a fiesta.

It’s all relative. Don’t listen to people online - drive one yourself.

Got a bmw extended warranty fully comp version that a claim is being denied.
Abs light is on.
Diagnosed as rear abs rings swelling and making contact with the rear abs sensors.
Abs ring and sensors covered under warranty but sytner saying there is corrosion on both drive shafts and they need replacing to get the rings on, which is not covered.
Cost in the thousands but don't have exact figure yet.

Now my fully comprehensive extended warranty includes wear and tear up to 100k miles. Anyone know if this claim is valid and on what basis the decision can be challenged?

I'm trying the angle that I can't see a part number for the abs ring only and they should be replacing the shaft with ring on as that's what the parts catalogue shows. Sytner saying they got a part number for the abs ring only so I've asked for them to send it to me as I said that can't be a genuine bmw part.

Apparently bmw uk have also said no to a goodwill gesture.

Thoughts welcome on how to tackle this please as its doing my head in.
So Sytner got back to me.
The nut was corroded on the shaft. They had to cut nit off but part of it is still seized on thread so they saying needs new shaft. They've offered to send it to an independent workshop to see if the thread can be repaired to accept a new nut. I can tell they have not made claim to warranty company citing corrosion has caused this and they won't cover it. Bill has come down from £1600 to £600.

Do BMW have a procedure for bedding in a new car? Reason I ask is my A35 AMG had a sticker on the dash warning not to use sport mode until 1,000 miles. Thanks.

It's normally in the manual, will be something like 1,200 miles of not thrashing it and making sure you vary engine revs.

Depends on the engine, my new M340i in November I was told BMW have no official "running in period" now for the B58 so it can in theory be ragged from day one. I still took it easy for the first 500 miles though.

Not sure if there is anything official but I'd say that keeping revs below 5k for 800 miles and ideally below 4k ish for 200 would be a nice way to treat something mechanical.

Thanks both.

No I tried remember, there is a trade person selling one I wanted to test drive but he wouldn't let me at the time probably as they were about to close.

I'll have to see if I can drive both, although I'd know what a 2 liter diesel feels like in a manual. I'd still want to test out the auto box , also test drive the petrol

I hope you enjoy the car! A friend picked one up and we did a road trip to Germany in it. Was an absolute blast :-)

I've now got the B58 in a 3 series, but wanted a manual so it's an F30 :-)
Ah nice! Yeah really looking forward to it thanks! Been ages since I test drove one so it'll be completely new experience when I pick it up. I love my M235 but this is a step up. :)

Why are you talking thousands for that ? Sytner done that?

New drive shafts for both sides would be around £200 wouldn't they if they damaged them.

When I had my reluctor rings replaced I bought the rings off a good motor eBay store, the hub nuts, new abs sensors, some liquid stuff I can't remember what it was for
.
The old nut are hard to get off , you need to go at it with a blowtorch and be careful not to damage the driveshaft itself..

I drove down to someone I know on a certain car forum to have mine done, I took some rear discs and pads too
