BMW and M Power Owners

I am getting more and more annoyed with BMW's website. It has been pants for as long as I can remember being cumbersome, badly laid out liable to hissy fits and it astonishes me that they haven't sorted it out yet as I know many friends who hold the same view. ******* me off.

Do you buy your cars brand new Housey?

The courtesy car they gave me, a 14 plate 316i auto, actually quite surprised me. It's a 1.6 turbocharged 4-pot with quite a bit of usable power. Handling was not bad and although the interior is a nice place to be (oddly specced with a HUD) it is clear there is a lot of cost-cutting going on in BMW land as things like the door skins felt incredibly cheap!

I thought this also, some of the smaller engined cars, despite being a GT *shudder* and an estate variants did pack a not bad punch.

Can't say I'm impressed with the feel of the interior either. Also annoyed me that the skip & volume buttons have been switched round on the steering wheel, coming from an E92, just feel really counter intuitive.

I thought so, Housey always sounds sensible :)

It was just the comment about the BMW site as the Used Approved was revamped recently.

Well, the prices are coming down - I've been keeping an eye on the market over the last couple of years and this price with everything taken into consideration isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

It's a 2001 car with 100k, if it comes with a dodgy service history then £4k seems about right, if a little cheap.

I agree though, despite your unnecessary comment, there is something wrong about.

Why would you even bother, if you can only afford a £3850 M3 you can't afford an M3, if you can't only afford a £3850 M3 then... buy a better one?

The boot floor likely needs some attention and you would definitely want to check if it has had the engine bearing recall done by BMW as that affected the early motors...

That said it really doesn't look in bad nick, I'd imagine it is that cheap because of no proof of sub frame repair?

I'd imagine its cheap because its rubbish - very easy to take nice photos of a nail. If it was a great example he'd get more than £3850 for it, simple as really?

Finding a nice example of an old BMW is hard enough in the first place.. they all look lovely in the pictures.

True but the points I covered will have a big factor in it!

Most people will give any M3 that hasn't had the sub frame issue seen to a wide berth and I'd bet £50 that one is cracked in someway.

Just to make it clear I'm not vaguely interested in the car in question, but rather what it represents for M3 current prices.

It doesn't represent anything. It's going to be a wreck. Even the earliest, cheapest and ropeyist M3's are still around £5k, this one is 25% cheaper than the those ones which should speak volumes. Baring in mind its hard to find a decent 330CI for this price, an M3 which traditionally are double the price on the used market, is extremely unlikely to be anything other than a heap.

It will undoubtedly have a cracked rear subframe and at that price, i wouldn't be surprised if the boot floor was all but falling out.

just booked my 330i in for inspection and filter/oil change at BMW Bolton. Oil change is due in 1000 miles so rather than it go in twice i thought it be easier to just bring it forward.

Going to get them to investigate the tweeting noise its making when at low speeds too.
