BMW and M Power Owners

Update on my daily car....

A few weeks ago I got the 20's refurbished in gloss black as there were a few kerb marks on them when I purchased the X6.

Not to everyone's tastes of course, but hey, you didn't buy it, I did ;)

As you've probably gathered from some of my posts in this thread I've had more than my fair share of problems with my M235i. The dealer has had it for over 4 weeks in the 3 months I've owned it to repair a mixed bag of faults from the major to niggly little ones and damage they inflicted on the car.

The final straw came last week when some of the faults they have been trying to repair returned. Based on this it's been agreed that they will replace the car...the question has now become with what? I'm not interested in another M235i due to being soured against the platform because of the number of faults I've had.

On Saturday I went in and had a look at some of the cars they had onsite to decide what I might be interested in. One of these was an 18 month old 650i which had a significant number of options installed, including surround view, the B&O sound system, adaptive drive and a fair few others. I took it out for a quick drive and really liked it, with the turbo'd v8 being something quite special. My only concern with this car is that it hasn't got the iDrive NBT, with what I believe is the CIC version installed. I'm not sure that the rest of the car is enough for me not to feel disappointed in going backwards with the idrive compared to what I've got in my current car.

I also had a look at a 435i M Sport they have in stock, which is a decent spec, just missing the reverse camera and M Sport brakes that I'd have liked. I'll be going in later in the week to have a drive of their demo which has a similar config, but as a car I like the 4 and it's probably a better size for what I want, with more room in the back for my kids.

I guess the other option is to ask them to find me a car which meets the spec that I'd want, be it new or nearly new, and see what they come back with.

Would that be a direct swap for your car? The difference between CIC iDrive and NBT iDrive is negligible. If it were me I'd take the 650i without hesitation for a direct swap.

It's noticeable when you've lived with the NBT 4.2 version for 3 months. I guess I need to go and have a properly play with it and see.

Waiting on numbers today to see if the 650i even comes close to being doable, but I got the impression on Saturday they think it could be.

I would definitely pick the 650I, I had a 4 Series.for a few days a few weeks ago and it felt nothing like the quality product the 6 does. I really liked NBT but it felt like an improved and refined CIC rather than the total revelation CIC was compared to CCC so it would be in the nice to have category rather than being essential. CIC is still about 10 times better than what's in the XF :P

If the 650i is possible then an M6 might not be that much further away........:p

Out of every car in BMW's current line up, the 6 Series is hands down their best car.

Looks like the new Pioneer iPhone unit has now been released in the UK, here's the link.

I appreciate it won't look anywhere near as good as the Dynavin unit but at £250 cheaper it doesn't need to either.

I've had a quick look on google for reviews but its early days obviously. Any reason why this wouldn't work in an E46? I'd have to drop the climate control into the sunglasses holder space but other than that it should be plug and play (with a BMW harness?) I assume.

From memory the dynavin and oem units actually only have a single din slot worth of gubbins to them - with the remainder just being screen at the bottom.

You can still fit any double Din you want, but you need to cut into the vent controls and some of the framing in behind your existing cages. From memory you'll lose the automatic leg vent open / closing so will have to pick either permanently open or closed.

You'll also need to find a specific fascia for the gap that's left - they tend to look crap

Yeah dont fit a double din to the E46, it doesnt fit. It can be made to fit, but then what cant :p

The dynavin units are a single din unit, with a massive face. They are the best option (the route i took on mine).

Having issues trying to get my phone working hands free with the factory system in my car, anybody have any suggestions?

Car is an E90 LCI, pro nav with bluetooth phone prep, phone is an iphone 6+. It is paired and connects automatically as it should - contacts show up on the nav unit and when a call comes in it is shown on the screen.... but there is no audio. Answering the call the nav goes back to doing whatever it was doing before as if there is no call at all, yet the phone shows the call is connected. If i tap the audio button on the phone during a call and manually select the BMW bluetooth connection there is still no sound via the car.
Very strange. Is there any way of 'resetting' the nav/audio/bluetooth system in the car?

Thanks!

My iPhone seems to have stopped working as an iTunes player into my F10 5 Series of late. I can still play music, but I can't control said music from the car and none of the media data is being presented within the car. I have to use the phone to play/pause content.

My 5S was also broken after IOS8 in my F30 - followed this and all was good in the world again.....

1. Delete all paired phones from the car
2. Delete all personal settings via I drive
3. Switch the ignition off completely
4. Delete ALL paired bluetooth devices on the Iphone 6
5. Do a soft reset on the phone using teh power and home buttons
6. Re pair the phone to the car

Step 2 is a pain however as it deletes *all* personalised settings in the car - shortcuts, radio, messages, address book etc etc were all gone.
