BMW and M Power Owners

M5 vs S8 in narrow back lane country road bashings... I think I kinda lost..? :(

On the bumpy, broken back country roads his 4 wheel drive system completely trounced my twitchy rear wheels, however if the road was normal then he couldn't get away even with the extra power, but that could just be our driving. Our chosen playground was definitely giving him an advantage however, next time I'll choose a 'less broken' grid!

Power wise, we didn't do a standing start but low down he'd have me however I would start to pull away at the higher end of the scale.

Interior... man! So plush compared to the M5, but different generations and levels of car - absolutely loved the seats.

I have to say though, I think the only reason he was quicker in the long run than me is because of his stupid night vision! (not stupid really, awesome!). Night time he was gone around bends I didn't even know were there!

Still, a big shock how a huge barge like that can move with an M5. Think I need more POWA!

Knowing the road has a significant impact on how fast you can drive it to the extent it makes the car less relevant. Also, if you try to drive a bumpy road in any BMW sports setting you will be slow as it will move around too much, become unbalanced and will struggle to both brake and accelerate if my recent M4 experience was anything to go buy. If the road gets bumpy and broken up then soft settings are best. I compared my RS4 to the E92 M3 over some local country roads and I can confirm the RS4 was simply better and easier to drive rapidly in those conditions as it was better damped and have MUCH better traction when the road was wet.

Thanks for the bluetooth/iphone replies. Turns out it was indeed an iOS 8 problem, updated to 8.1 beta 2 and it is fully resolved.
Now to work out why I'm unable to update my maps and I'll be happy :)

Can anyone recommend where to pick up some genuine BMW 189 18" wheels a bit cheaper than BMW them selves? they quoted £325 each.

I've found these which i can collect.

Genuine-BMW-18-189

What would i check to make sure they are genuine?

I pick up a e92 m3 a week on Saturday, so today I have been ringing round the insurance companies.
I am 33 with 10+ Ncb, missus is 29 full Ncb as second driver. I've been quoted £420!
This seems insanely cheap. Is their anyone in similar circumstances, that could tell me what they pay?

eBay is your best bet. That's where I buy alloys from.
Ask to see pictures of the stamps on the inside of the wheels to make sure they're genuine.

Probably cheaper and less hassle to buy alloys without tyres on, unless you're specifically looking for used rubber :p

-edit, although looking at that link, I wouldn't think they were replicas.

So no 650i as ended up much too expensive...

Looks like a factory order 335d X Drive fully spec'd as I want, just need to decide if I want EB or MG.

Equally too expensive

Have you got narrow age requirements or something because there are quite a few 2012's on the AUC site for rather less than the cost of a new 3 Series. The issue with the 3 Series is that when spending big money on a top spec 335d it cannot escape the fact it's also designed to sell for £23k in 316d ES trim - thats what I disliked about the 4 Series I had for a few days. It had the spec but the underlying product just didn't seem to match the price tag.

Yes, I'm constrained by the stock this dealer has and what they can get. They have none of the older cars and the newer ones are too expensive as I don't want to spend more than I already have/am on the M235i. I have also been and played with older version of the iDrive and would be disappointed in going back to that compared to what I have in my car at the moment.

Fortunately I don't feel that way about the 3, especially in the 335d guise and spec'd as I have spec'd it. For example the idrive, engine, gearbox, steering wheel are the same in the 3 as those in the 6. The lights and a few of the other components are of a newer and higher spec design than the 6...ok some of the materials aren't as good, but then its a car that is lower down the range so thats to be expected.

That 335d sounds like a totally rubbish way to spend money, what a waste.

Fortunately its my money and I don't feel that way about it...
