BMW and M Power Owners

When diagnosed the dealer said the replacement of the holder would be covered under the warranty but today they have tried to wriggle out of it saying electrical items arent covered by the comprehensive warranty???

A BMW dealer who doesn't know what their warranty covers?! Well I never...

Politely ask them to reconsider and/or read their policy booklet, if it does in fact say nothing about bulb holders etc.

In fact even if they refuse to pay for it, just fix it yourself. There isn't much that goes wrong with a bulb holder that can't be fixed in 5 minutes flat.

First service for the 3 series coming up. Would you guys go main dealer or independent? (14 plate).

Main dealer. Supply your own LL04 oil. Profit and laugh at how your service costs less than most people spend in servicing a Ford Fiesta.

Soooo.. I have been looking at a BMW amongst other cars to replace the Lexus which is pretty flipping hard. Anyway I initially was looking at the M6 but I have decided to be a bit more realistic with the budget and have been looking around. I have never really been a big fan of the BMW looks but they have started to grow on me and the car that stands out is the 05-09 550i M-Sport.

I will be looking at spending £10-12K on this car so does anyone have any experience?
Fuel really doesn't bother me as I do very low mileage.
Is there a factory option that comes close to the Lexus Mark Levinson Audio upgrade?
What are the main things to look for when buying?

Oh and the most important thing.. Is there anywhere (Forum Etc) that people are selling them? Autotrader has a couple bit the 550i M-Sport seems to be very rare.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Ugh... found what looks like corrosion under the boot handle on my E92 (in the crease). Off up to the BMW bodyshop today to see if they'll cover it under the 12 year anti corrosion warranty. Not holding out much hope, assume they'll find a way to wriggle out of it.

Hiya, my warranty is up for renewal and I just wanted to get my information correct before I give them a call/go online to get the quote. I've got a just over 3 year old 1 series, and I'm wanting to keep the same level of warranty as I had with the AUC warranty that came with the car, I'm assuming that's the top one? Is it also worth paying less and having to pay an excess considering the age of the car and that theoretically nothing "should" go wrong?

Also, I'm nowhere near 60000 miles, it's at about 25k at the moment, so is it worth me going with the monthly fee now or is it only worth doing that when the car is going to go over the 60k cap?

Agreed. I have spoken to them again. They now say as I was initially told by a service advisor after iniitla inspection that the holders would be covered, Sytner will now pay for the holders themselves. Accepted their gesture but made it clear it should be the insurer paying, not the branch as its essentially an all risks policy under the comprehensive level warranty with only exclusions listed.

Tough part now is that the turbos have now been delivered and its such a big job its not going to be ready by end of Thursday this week. With the B/H's they are projecting a Wednesday 8th handback! :( Not a job I want them to rush though!

Got a 116i sport as a coutesey, not a bad little car but not worth what BMW ask for it! I miss POWER!!!

That'll be up to you how you want to pay it. I would just go monthly and forget about it, but then again, it's up to you.

As for the excess question, the minimum excess will be closest to the AUC warranty, but like you say, there shouldn't be much to go wrong with the car anyway as it's so new. I went for maximum (£250 I think) excess as it was around £200 cheaper on the 3 series, so I figured so long as I had no more than one claim per year, I wouldn't have lost anything.

It may be worth paying in full for the policy with maximum excess this year, and switching over to less of an excess for future years on a rolling monthly basis though. Depends if you want the hassle or not.

The only advantage of paying monthly is that it locks a price in which is useful if you are approaching 60k miles.

Also allows you to continue the Comprehensive warranty beyond 100k miles, as the mileage limit is at policy "commencement".

Anyone know of a guide for turbo replacement on a 335i ?

Just curious as to whats involved in such a big job. Haven't managed to find anything myself!

Really? They must charge a fortune for the oil!

Around £120 for 6.5l of oil. You can get it from ECP for a mere £60.

Your car clearly won't need a microfilter yet, so it's normally £56 for the labour and oil filter, with you supplying the oil.

Top tip: Don't ask if you can supply your own oil, tell them you will be supplying your own approved oil and ask how much it is with this in mind. 75% of dealers will do this with no issue at all, but some get snooty apparently.

*cough* Backpedal *cough*.

They clearly have read that the warranty says it's covered, then made it look like that are doing it out of goodwill so it makes them A) look good and B) like they know what they are talking about.

Just let the warranty paintwork go man :p

Haha, the paintwork saga has been let go. The whole "motor trade trying to wiggle out of everything and bend over customers" issue though is one that will go on for a lot longer.

Car went in for an end of warranty check last Friday where they discovered one of the horns had failed (news to me) and the washer jets were all gunked up in the pumps. I expected to be told this wouldn't be covered due to someone using non-BMW fluid at some point in the cars life, however they were more than happy to book it in for today to do a de-clog of the whole system without even a snide remark at how it's due to cheap fluid.

Not wanting this to happen again, does anyone know where you can get BMW washer fluid at a decent price?

You actually think that using BMW washer fluid will make your car washer jets less likely to clog up?

The clogging up is caused by reactions between different types of fluid, so yes, using the BMW fluid exclusively will make the jets less likely to clog up (Though in theory so will exclusively using any other brand of fluid). The other crucial point is that it's a warranty issue if it goes wrong again and it's only had BMW fluid in.

It's not that expensive at BMW if you buy the 5L. From what I can gather, it's got a much higher alcohol content at the recommended dilution rates, which helps stop any gunk building up. I guess same can be said for better quality screen washes as well, rather than just your halfords ready mix.

You can definitely smell the alcohol in it compared to cheaper screen washes, smells extremely flammable!
