BMW and M Power Owners

I assume they don't make petrol X3's?

If so, I'd consider a petrol alternative marque if your criteria is as you say.

Wow, BMW have authorised my rust repair on the rear arch of my 330d Touring. Didn't think it would go ahead but they're repairing it on the 13th. Instead of cutting out the arch they are replacing the entire rear quarter panel

Edit: Dealer won't budge on price - said it had been sitting at the higher price for 3 months but they can't drop it again unless it is unsold for 6 months

Then say thanks but no thanks. He'll call back and if he doesn't its his loss. There are a number of dealer chains like that - price the cars high then refuse to negotiate. They always keep cars for months and months, I really don't understand how the business model works but there we go.

Reminds of buying the GF's Mini - there were 40 odd London 2012 Cooper's all 9-12 months old on the Mini approved site, all 3k-10k miles, all identical spec. So no test drives needed, no viewings, just whoever could do the best deal. One dealer had TEN of them between 7k and 10k miles. Called up and they refused to even take £10 off the price for full cash payment there and then.

Bought an identical car with 3k miles on it from another main dealer for £1k less

Oh there are too many criteria and it's too late in the day now, we've been on the X3 wagon for a month and I only found out about the diesel particulate whatsit last week , so more fool me, but it'll be easier to remove it/clean it/pay for a new one than to start the car hunt over again. I'm looking at two different 20d models both under 20k miles and less than 3 years old, both with service pack up to 2018 so cleaning should not be any problems in the near future and anyway a clogged DPF should be covered by the service pack even if not a warranty issue... right? Hopefully a case of "warning light comes on so service required, book it in and job done".

I did look for petrol XC60s and Q5s but they are few and far between and not with the right spec (automatic, light interior leather, <4yr).

The BMW Service Inclusive package is just that - an inclusive service pack. It does not cover the DPF, it covers the cost of scheduled servicing.

The original factory warranty and the approved used car warranty appear to cover the DPF but the insured extended warranty does not appear to.

Soo, slight problem with my 328i E46.

I left it standing for a couple of weeks and had to jump start it, which I don't think it particularly relevant.

Once started it pretty much immediately stalled itself and then had a really rough idle and after driving a few hundred meters it started to lose power to the point where with my foot flat to the floor in 1st it was topping out at around 15mph, then it started kangerooing and occasionally getting power before dropping again and generally being odd.

It got better for a little bit but started again on the way down a long steep hill, even going down the hill it wouldn't go above 20ish and with the window open there was no engine noise, sounded very much like it was using about 1/2 a cylinder.

Any ideas what it might be? I'm trying to install INPA and if successful will plug in tomorrow as I guess it's probably a sensor? Unless it could be a VANOS issue? Although would that cause such a drop in power?

Cam sensor or ICV imo.

Vanos isn't going to cause what you describe, something like a cam sensor as above, potentially maf, or a complete failure of a coil.

The fact it has been sitting sounds fairly coincidental, though maybe moisture has quickened the failure

Nope, unlikely to.

I would do the following:

- Take it to another garage to get them to check the wheel balance again.
- Are your wheels OEM or aftermarket? Regardless, get them to check if they are bent.
- Get them to check your propshaft guibo
- Get them to check your rear subframe bushes.
- Get them to check your rear trailing arm bushes and ball joints

Bit of an update to this!

Managed to find someone to swap my wheels with to try and narrow down where the vibration is coming from. The vibration persisted after swapping all of the wheels in different combinations. At least I can rule them out.

Bit stuck now what to do. Just to refresh the situation:

Having a little bit of a vibration issue on my 330ci.

It seems to vibrate gently from about 45mph upwards. It can be felt through the whole car and the steering wheel. Its not too bad and a fairly gentle wobble type vibration but its enough to get irritating quickly! I can feel it through the accelerator as well so your leg feels a bit numb after a while  The vibration remains when the car is put in neutral at speed.

Any ideas? I have had all four wheels balanced but this doesn't seem to have helped much. I've also checked the brakes after driving and none of them seem to be heating up too much so I've ruled out a sticking caliper. I've also changed the following in the past week or so

Control arms and bushes
Drop Links
Inner & Outer Tie Rods
Front ARB Bushes

Any ideas?

Would warped discs cause vibration at speed?

You'd expect to feel something at lower speeds too. Probably hear something as well. checked your engine mounts?

I haven't checked them no. I assumed that because there is no vibration at idle or when revving when stationary that it wouldn't be the mounts. May be wrong though!
