BMW and M Power Owners

There's a re-train gearbox mode on the autos isn't there, have you tried that so it accustoms to your driving style?

I have the 5 speed auto in my 328i. I find its easier to just whack it into manual mode when you feel like using all of the rev range. That is unless you're going quickly from a standstill, in which case it'll hold 1st until about 5.5k rpm in sport mode.

Just ordered a brand new 220d Msport today though work as my next NHS lease car.

Should be quite nice as i enjoyed driving the loan one i had, included extras M sport plus pack and the Media package which i had to have with the upgrade screen etc.

Got the car coming in Estoril blue :) but a 20-22 week lead time on new cars got a nice wait to come.

Yeah I have tried it. It does help throttle response does feel sharper now. I may give it a miss then, having read up more, people who have done it mention flat spots being removed. Rev limiter raised but say it won't change the car etc I'll think on it but now I'm thinking it isn't worth it.

Nice! Like the look of the 2, its like a mini 4 series :D

Good choice ;)

Well my car is booked in again at BMW tomorrow to have them have a good look at what might be causing the dip in idle revs when I come to a stop some times. Mine seems more common then most say on the forums. So I guess I am looking forward to being charged £500 with no fault or problem found but a slightly shinier car.

At least now the weathers getting better so when I do get a chance to drive it for fun, and not being sat in traffic it reminds me why I upgraded to it from the old car.

I don't think you want to re-train the gearbox adaptions. I've heard bad things can happen if done unnecessarily.

The throttle adaption reset can be done however, sharpens up all fly by wire E46's - I tend to have to do it every couple of weeks but it's a quick job so no real hassle.

I spent today looking into E46 M3 coding options, I've got a couple of mates who want speed limiters removed, CSL style oil temp lights, SMG shift lights and throttle pedal values changed. My mind is frazzled from staring at hex for so long :p

Have your VANOS seals been changed? That should give you a bit more oomph at the lower rev range. The M54 is quite rev happy so you do need to use up the available rev range to get it to go.

My 330 does about 22 combined but I have a heavy foot. Generally reliable, so long as the cool it system is solid, the engines themselves will do heavy miles.

Hmm, I'm getting 22mpg combined from my 530i auto, predominantly town commuting with plenty of lead foot moments!

Would like a little more torque under 3krpm clarkey. I spend most of my time under that unless I overtake. I feel it's a little gutless underneath those revs. It's not a vanos issue which I thought it was. Just how they are from others I spoke to regarding them.

After my manual 325i e46 Touring, I love how much more low end grunt my 3.0 has! I rarely take it over 3k unless having a hoon, I don't need to, the car wafts along without the need to hoof it beautifully IMO.

Just whack the shifter across into DS mode = later gear changes and a nice quick throttle response.

I think you'd be wiser to source a replacement 'box for the Vectra tbh (if indeed it needs a new box) The Vectra is far better suited to 20k pa useage, my old e46 325i Touring got high 30's on a run if driven like a saint, more spirited driving was more like 30 at best.

Bland as it undoubtedly is, I'd sort the Vectra, use it as the commute hack and perhaps find a 3 for the weekend.

The e46 will be the nicer to commute in bar when its off the road having inevitable faults put right, it will take the miles with ease so long as you can put up with it requiring work to do so, pretty much as the Vectra will albeit whilst being better on fuel.

The Vectra is already an ideal commuting hack, a 12+ yr old 120k+ e46 isn't really.

Yes, I have a ~15 year old 530i and commute in it but barely do 10k pa total mileage in the car so its age / mileage related issues - wheel bearings getting noisy for example - are not that much of an issue, I think were my mileage to double I'd change the car.

Sensible advice and the obvious choice :(

That was my thinking all along, maybe looking at picking up a £5k Skoda Superb for a couple of years but I don't really want to spend the money if I don't have to. Should be getting a car allowance in 2 years time all being well.

I'm just hankering after another BMW to be honest, loved my E46's and not a fan of the E90 so wanted another one before I need to move onto more modern cars.

Back to the dealer again tomorrow...sigh

Closed the boot a few days ago and heard a thunk, open it to find the warning triangle sat surrounded by a white powder similar to plaster of paris. Went and got my hex drivers, thinking all that had happened was the screws had worked loose and they'd just screw straight back in...no such luck, whatever the white stuff is the screws went into it and they now push straight through and grip nothing so they just fall out.

So lets see what little drama the dealer can make of fixing this problem.

Aye on a more serious note it looks like it is a ding that can be sorted by a dent guy without much trouble. I am guessing it's on a part of door that can be reached from the inside if the door panel is popped out from there?

J1nxy you don't have any luck with BMW do you!
