BMW and M Power Owners

Being as it's BMW owners, does anyone own an E61 530D? I believe the difference between these and the E60 is that the E61 is touring only? Apologies for dumb question.
But I owned an E60 530D a couple of years ago and am now looking at the estate version, as I move a lot of large objects about doing house clearances etc, and the 530D ticked every box for me as a car, good looking, fast, economical (surprisingly) 53mpg average from a 3 litre turbo diesel? and fun to drive of course, savagely quick, I can only imagine what an EGR delete, swirl flap delete and stage 1 remap would be even crazier!

The E61 is simply the touring variant, that's all.

It does not average 53mpg. Infact you will likely never see 53mpg from it, even on a long trip. These are not 50mpg cars.

Not really sure its 'savagely quick' either and a swirl flap 'delete' isn't a performance mod.

How did mine average it?

Faulty trip computer perhaps, even the ridiculously optimistic official combined figure is nowhere near!

My next generation more efficient 8 speed 530d doesn't often top 50.

The combined figure was nowhere near, on a journey I kid you not, 61.4mpg when i reached my driveway, i was baffled to say the least.

I must prove this again

Your other thread mentions a 2004, sorry but its just not going to average 53mpg and the early 530d is not really what could be described as 'savagely quick'.

Frankly an 11 year old 530d sounds like a total nuisance, look for a 530i instead.

I can understand your reasoning behind that, but a thirsty petrol is not what I am after, I was doing a lot of mileage, and my Astra's gearbox wasn't healthy back then, but after owning it, I loved everything about it, and was quick enough for what I wanted

They were thirsty when brand new so no, not really.

My Dad had a manual 530d for years and it was never more than 7mpg more efficient than my otherwise identical (same year) 530i.

If you want economy you pick the 520d. The big sixes have only just become credible 50mpg cars and that's after 15 years of development!

There is nothing improperly serviced or badly maintained about my low mileage 530d and 50mpg is an event so rare I usually end up photographing the trip computer to mark the occasion. And that's on an Efficient dynamics car with more efficient gearbox and the much newer all aluminium engine.

53mpg average? As Fox has already pointed out, you won't get 53mpg from one of these as a one off, never mind an average.

And your mistaking the surge of torque for a surge of speed I think.

The e60 era 530d is neither savagely quick nor economical, the 535d on the other hand is pretty swift for a big diesel barge but not in the grand scheme of things alas.

Well it was to just buy a brand new car on the bucket list the beemer makes it a little more special when I dont have to commute 120 miles a day I'll chop it in for a 235i as that's the bad boy I really want
